Is Godaddy 4GH hosting any good or crap?

Godaddy's new 4gh hosting looks interesting:

Web Hosting | Secure Hosting Plans with Unlimited Bandwidth

I remember their old hosting had such a bad reputation but this new "4gh" hosting has cloud power and looks tempting. Maybe they've improved their hosting product? Would you use it?

Honestly I am so turned off because their old hosting was so bad, and I switched and have been getting better results. But this is one of those times where you have to go with your intuition. However, I will give you my thoughts anyway. Maybe they have improved but to be honest, I think it is one of those wait and see situations. If in time people say that they are happy with it, then if your intuition points to "yes", go with it

Well I'm on hostgator now and have been happy with it but saw godaddy's new offering and it looked tempting but probably not enough to switch. Though the cloud offering is a great feature!

It is, but I personally think you are still better off with hostgator I am glad something made godaddy change though, because if they start getting a better rep due to their changes, it will only benefit them later on. They were bad though, very bad lol!

Their new servers come sheaved in elephant skin, making them tougher and more durable...that's what I herd.....I could be wrong though.

All I can tell you, I've had an experience with godaddy on shared hosting. It was terrible. It took 7 seconds literally to load a wordpress site that was almost new.

      I then switched to hostgator.

      Now it takes 1 second.

      Cheers

Watch out for a TRICK! UNLIMITED is NOT unlimited! And WHY do they limit MYSQL databases to 1GB? I mean EVEN if you have 250GB, and "UNLIMITED" mysql databases, they are STILL limited to 1GB! What happens if you go over?

Personally, I don't like anything to do with Godaddy because I find them to be too aggressive on upsells and too high priced on many services. I switched to Hostgator long ago and have been happy.

GoDaddy is one of the worst places in the world to have your hosting.

I'd never use GoDaddy for hosting.

Slow, constantly down and other things.

    Don't move to them.

I would never touch Godaddy hosting. There are so many plans, like hostgator and hostmonster that have much better service and pricing

    • If the whole world has only Godaddy left as premium hosting, i'll choose free hosting. Lol!

I would imagine that they are just rebranding their current service since it has such a bad rep. And clearly it is working.

Hm, I may try GoDaddy but Hostgator looks like a better alternative.. so im left in the middle, im not sure about prices and how competitive they are yet so I am going to have to look that up.

By looking at the comparison between Godaddy 4GH Vs the Rest, Godaddy is the best one.
And I decided to buy the hosting package from Godaddy

Here are my experiences so far.
The 4GH servers appear to be responsive, as a developer I have experienced timed out FTP uploads on regular hosting that do not happen of 4GH (for now).
The delays in setting up things like ftp users, databases, additional domains pointing to sub-folders etc; is annoying however it is currently still faster than the old GD hosting.
I have one client with a Microsoft plan on GD 4GH, we have been experiencing some significant problems with email and this may well be true for a Linux based hosting plan as well. It appears that the GD Email Servers are regularly blacklisted, which is not good if you are relying on a rapid response for new member authentication.
With regards to CURL there appears to be a major problem with secure CURL. I have wasted many hours recently endeavouring to find a set of CURL options that would allow a GD 4GH hosted site to talk securely to the Bank of America (First Data) payment processing gateway. It works perfectly on HostGator.

Why do I say "for now" ? Well I think that the server configurations are lightly loaded at this time, we will have to wait and see what will happen to response times and the ability to handle surges in traffic when the servers are more heavily loaded.

For the price if you have several sites that you are developing that do not need secure CURL and email outages are not going to cause you much grief then it is worth giving GD 4GH a go. Otherwise look for a managed dedicated server or some other hosting company offering a comparable feature set to GD's 4GH.

        Hope this helps.

After several hours of trying different options with CURL it turns out that GD does not allow CURL to ports other than 80 and 443 which pretty much rules out using CURL for any sort of payment gateway or for connecting to GMAIL as your email server.

So it looks like I am going to have to move my clients to another hosting company.
