making money online vs helping people

Guys and girls I'm sure I'm not alone here...

This post is more for the newbies....

I regularly get phone calls and emails from my students saying
"have you heard about this person who made $10,000 in 48 hours,
how do they do it."

I explain that the dollars are a result of the help they've given
to lots of people over months or even years and they have a
relationship already in place so when they release a product
if they've given good value people would generally be queuing up
to buy it. They have to put the hard work in first.

I think lots of people out there focus on the "making money" part
rather than "helping people" and that's like putting the horse
before the cart.

I wrote a funny ebook around 5 years ago called kissing frogz which
was about what i leant in relation to offline business networking.
In fact the same sciences apply online because people are still people
where ever you meet them.

If anything it's harder on line because people can't see feel and touch
you so you have to work even harder to build the trust and rapport.

Because I have a good relationship with a bunch of people they were
happy to buy my ebook and i received some great testimonials so for
any one still to make their first few dollar online.

1st thing is put your mind in the right place, comment on your
specialist forum and help people with what you've learned because
everyone has been given a gift they can use to help others with
and the sales will come...

    Exactly. A lot of it has to do with the person and whether or not you can trust them.

    You would not necessarily buy a WSO from someone with a bad rep on the main forums and vice versa.

    With a responsive list of subscribers who trust you implicitly, you can make $10,000 faster than 48 hours. It can happen in a few hours if your timing is right and you have enough people on your list and/or a higher priced product or service.

    The OP is exactly right... it's about the relationship and the trust factor. Just like it is for offline businesses and business people. You can certainly make some money online without building relationships, so it's not the only game in town. But, long-term, far better to have repeat customers and a base of supporters than to constantly be relying on first-time customers and a turnstile mentality.

      Excellent, I couldn't have said it better.

      The only problem is that those who brag about having earned so much money usually don't tell how much work it took.

      So, for newbies it seems like they are doing something wrong because everyone else is making so much money without effort!

    I totally agree with you, yes you can make money doing little tasks online, but if you want to make a business and have LONG term success, then relationships is what is going to do it.

    Relationships with your audience, with your JV partners and etc...

    Thanks for your comments folks, maybe that's the answer to the "big red magic button".
    Build great relationships then you can send 1 email and make many sales. The problem is most people wouldn't even get the process started...

    I like reading threads like this from time to time to remind me
    from where I came from and where I used to be.

    As far as people building relationships with people over weeks
    and months - it's been my experience it can happen in just a
    few hours DEPENDING ON what the business is.

    I don't think it's so much as a buffer of time separating the
    financially successful from those who aren't...

    I big part of it is a state of mind and acquired skills - namely
    sales, marketing, and a fundamental understanding of people.

    Some of those people can make $10k in a weekend based on
    NO prior relationship to anyone - it can happen in a split sec-
    ond...which leads me to believe it IS a state of mind, because
    it leads to certain actions that MAKE doing that possible.

      I agree with this way of doing business SO much!! One of the things that I started doing with my bookmarks is literally donating them to put in gift bags at bridal fairs. Sure, it costs money to make them - printer ink, cardstock, laminating film, tassels and postage. But how much more targeted can I get than to have my bookmarks right in the hands of the very people who are looking to buy and are already thinking of eventually buying wedding favors right in the fronts of their minds.

      When I approach an event planner to include a sample laminated bookmark in each gift bag, they are thrilled! Event planners literally look for donations of sample items, coupons, etc. It helps them look good by giving away these items and it's almost-free advertising for the companies that donate the products.

      So in my particular niche, this is one way to help people get what they want while I get my business name out there and branded.

      I also literally "over deliver" with my products. I don't charge extra for a lot of the little things that my competitors charge for and in that way, I can make more sales AND make more people (brides especially) happy with their purchases and all the more likely to make referrals, if not come back for orders for a future event.

      I look at my no-extra-charge customization options as the "bonuses" that I give away with my orders.

        Just chiming in - I am just getting started in online marketing and so far am loving it. It's the combination of doing something helpful for people and creating an income source for myself that gives me passion for this work. If it were just one without the other I don't think I could do it. Sure if I was financially secure I would be happy to work voluntarily to help others, using my time to create benefit and not needing to worry about the money. But I can't see myself doing it just for the money either. Not because I'm so noble, but for me unless I'm providing some value for my customers/site visitors it doesn't excite me. So yeah it's the combination of the two that really keeps me inspired.

    I always believe when some one tell me I earned 1000$ today,I feel he has put atleast six month effort before that pays him continuously,It is true but takes same time for you to get to that position.

    Example: "How i made 4000$ in 40 hours" There might be background work for 400+ hours.you can achieve even more than that.You need subcribers,affilaites and traffic to get that.Not a newbie touches that mark immediately.

    1. Get Rick Quick schemes actually get you poor quick..
