Making 1$ or more as quick as possible with 20 local domains?

13 replies
Hey Warriors,

We're in a dilemma, go for the big fish straight-away or catch the small fish first?

FYI: The domain names are local extensions of the real-estate profession, al with over 300 exact searches/month.

For the past few weeks my friend and I have been working intensively on our local marketing idea. We've done the market research, identified potential customers and even found a sort of competitor in this new market.

The competitor has contracts with many of our potential customers reaching up to $2500/year for the leads they refer. Now we know how to do the same thing and do it better... but in order to get it started we will have to invest between $ 4000 and $ 7000 for a new website.

All the signs say ''GO!'' - we even have an investor to pay for the website.

BUT we've never made any money before, not a dollar.

We've invested, but never gotten a return. That's why I thought that we should find a way to make a little money from the domain-names first, just to boost our confidence. What do you think of this idea?

How would you make money from these domain names if the amount didn't matter and you had to get it ASAP?

Cheers,
Collatio

    How do you plan to make money? By the way, most online businesses just need a domain and a website which will cost $100 or so. Even if you take professional help, it should be well within $1,000. You don't need to pay $3,000 unless you are going for some extraordinary website with all bells and whistles.

      I actually meant making money with these domains only. My bad, but I know how to make money from other services and have done it before. Good tip though!

      We are going for an extraordinary website indeed, but it will be applicable to over 450 domains and endless services. That's the beauty of it, the 20 domains are just a start.

      The difficulty is that we need a website that is very well SEO-optimized and provides us a profile-based system. People should be able to create profiles and save certain 'products' in their profile.

      The money will come in through contracts with 3rd parties that we sell the leads too.

      But this is all about the big-fish, any advice on how to take on the small-fish or shouldn't I worry about that at all and just go for it?

        If you want to boost your confidence , find a Keyword with around 2k searches a month , with very little competion-Get some backlink , you should be at #1. That should get you around $50 a Month if you're lucky , that my advice before taking on the Big niches.

    Hi,

    Sell the domains name through Sedo.com & earn handsome amount. But all depends upon the Domains Names.

      Thanks for the advice.

      I actually parked the domains on Sedo.com for now and have offered up a few for sale, so it could sell.. but the domain is worth more than I can sell it for right now IMO.

      Plus the sedo.com parking makes a really sloppy AdSense website come up that doesn't even say the site is for sale. This is something I'll have to take up with my hosting company, probably some error.

      What I was thinking is making a simple advert site or any other idea to make some money out from local businesses. I can easily get the domain ranking #1 in Google, but I need to know what to put on the website before I try this.

      Cheers,
      Collatio

        You can charge Monthly/6 Monthly/yearly/Life time. Depends on how much you want to charge. I have my One site where I have option of Free, Paid & Featured. With All Combinations. You can charge 10$/15$/25$ anything you desire.

        If a site ranks on the first page for a lucrative local term that targets attorneys or chiropractors (for example), you should easily be able to charge $150-$200 and up per month to lease it out.

    Hi,

    Yes you can make money with your own domain names. Lots of people have started their own businesses based on this kind of opportunity. There are different ways to earn money from domain names. You need to purchase popular and powerful websites have good names, at low price and then sell them on your own adjusted price. It is difficult in recent age to select good domain, but there is a way to buy expired domains. Among expired names; you can find some valuable, well-established and attractive ones.

    Do you think your potential customers are going to break their contracts with your competitor? Are they even allowed to?

      @paulie888,
      What exactly do you mean with 'leasing it out'?

      @shurets1,
      The thing is that I don't think potential buyers would like it that they have to go through a service like Sedo. It's an old-fashioned business where they would rather just call me up, transfer the money and have me take care of things from there on.

      @dnsg
      The segment of the market the competitor focuses on is different from ours. They focus solely on new houses while we focus on existing as well, this means that the leads are different and our offer is just as (if not more) interesting. Plus, the keywords we use are different from our competitor which simply means that we get different leads. More leads is more business so they may want to add another contract.

      Thanks for the good question though, made me think!
