With US Gov't Reviewing Internet Laws is it Important to Move Offshore?

Just a simple question, but it seems that things are gonna change online. The shake up might affect internet marketing in a way that will change the entire landscapre...

Have you considered moving your sites offshore while these changes occur?

I'm not talking about circumventing law, but it might take some time to change your sites or policy to be compliant...or even understand what's going on.

just asking...

Not sure this will help. I am in Canada and consulted with Bob Silber at Internet Marketing Law Products . His words of advice to me...You need to comply with the laws of the country you are doing business in. So most of my sites are built with US and Canadian laws in mind.

On a side note I think it's somewhat funny that you see a lot of non-US business or site owners asking if they should set up a US corporation to take advantage of taxes and getting merchant accounts.

No. I do business online under the exact same conditions I do business offline. I get all the right permits, observe all the right procedures, and pay very close attention to my regulatory compliance.

As a result, if they "crack down" on internet activities, they'll find me to be completely within the law. And they'll pat my shoulder and say "good job" while they move on to the next guy.

I'm not american but I bet that american laws ARE and WILL always be the most friendly in terms of business compared to other countries. Come on, America's been built thanks for its people's enterpreneural spirit. It's a core of US. Yes, they may increase taxes, apply some policies but in general it wll be ok I guess. I got all of my sites running on servers located in US and I always used to sleep well thanks to this fact.

I think that those setting up business entities offshore
often delude themselves because they don't know of all
of the arrangements, treaties, reciprocity deals, etc. made
    between agencies in different countries.

      Hi,

There are certain states within the USA that apparently offer greater business 'freedoms' than other well-known offshore locations, depending on what you want to achieve.

I'm currently reading a book which has altered my perspective more than almost any other that I've read - this bookthis book .

If you want to get wiser about 'offshore' or secrecy jurisdictions, I recommend it. In fact, if you're at all interested in money or the real reason for the current global financial issues - read it.
