What makes the difference between earning a few dollars or thousands

Was thinking about this lately and found it a interesting thought: how come some people only earn a few bucks with hard work and can't get past the few bucks, while others earn thousands.

What makes the difference between those people? Intelligence, creativity, ... ?

Feel free to post your opinion!

This also applies on what makes the difference between getting 10 visitors and 1000 visitors a day.. What do you guys think about this, like what distinguishes the people from the "pros?"

I think the difference is scaling up.

Once you see something is making you $$, just do more of the same.

Newbies tend to just jump to the next "better" method. Successful people just scale up blindly and enjoy the cash.

Yep, I was scrolling down to post " they scale" but Ash107 already said it. This is the difference.

It's really not that hard to find something that works. The big money is in scaling it.

Webmasters need patience and persistence. Great content is key as well as plenty of sources for income aka monetizing your website. Targeting your audience is also very important, most people just want traffic but targeted traffic is what you should be aiming for.

    1. Having a cogent, but flexible plan.
    2. Having a product mix.
    3. Having a proven marketing / sales funnel that's been tweaked over time to maximize conversion.
    4. Knowing how and when to scale up.
    5. Mastering the channels of distribution.
    6. Incorporation your list with a comprehensive back-end strategy (ties in with #2).

    Perseverence.

Most people try something, wait a week for results, and then quit.

You need to try something and do it every day for sixty days. All the way through that, you need to look at what you are doing, see how well it works, and try to make it work better. Every. Single. Day.

If you do that, pretty much anything you do can't help but succeed. You do anything at all every day for sixty days, and even if you are borderline retarded you will know what it takes to make that into a full-time income by then.

Winners don't quit and quitters don't win.

I am not making thousands a day but I can tell you this, focus on one thing first, don't overwhelm yourself. Ok one project might need to get promoted in many places in order for you to make some bucks but it is still one thing, focus, focus.

Don't jump from one hot thing to the next, find something that works, or ask some people here at WF what works for them and STICK TO IT until you start seeing money coming in.

Also going after the '' Make Money '' niche when you are starting out is pretty foolish, so educate yourself and do research about what ever you are trying to promote.

      Cool thread OP

I'll add patience. Money starts flowing very slowly in this business. But as you get more traffic, more offers, more sales, more opt ins, etc. more monetization opportunities arise. It's a cycle, but getting to the point where it looks easy is tough.

I liken building an online business (and offline) to pushing a rock up the hill. Slow going for a long time; you may even falter and stop. However, when you reach the crest, it's much easier and faster.

I'm near the crest for my offline business (took me 5 years to build it up) and am only part way up the hill online, but I am getting results and keep pushing that rock. Fortunately the view is nice the whole way.

Ive been thinking along these lines myself lately. Im currently making just under $3,000 a month at the moment and want to move this quickly to $5,000 or $10,000.

To put it simply I know what I need to do, Ive already proven that. I just need to "do it bigger"

To answer your question as best I can with the knowledge and experience I have, I would say this.....

You must sell high ticket items where there is MASSIVE demand.

The amount of work, time and marketing involved with promoting a $27 ebook where there might be 1,000 searches a month, isnt that different to promoting a $1,997 home study course where there are 200,000 searches a month.

Whilst there are obvious differences, the overall process is exactly the same.

    Make sense?

Just for the hell of it, let's make it more interesting: "you" (not making anywhere near your expectation or potential) and "them" (seemingly having the Midas touch, living large, with a steady flood of cash every week into their bank account).

They undoubtedly did more and better research into keywords and potential profitability than you; OR paid more attention to "what's in it for me" from their targeted audience's perspective; OR they're delivering better content OR better SEO; OR have a better opt-in; OR they have a better offer AND/OR salespage; etc.

What you have to take away from this is that I don't have to guess - it's up to you to find out for yourself which one or ones it is and fix it.

It's really not that difficult if you go at it systematically; and once you've learned how to do that, you can repeat it over and over and over again with relative ease and confidence with other niches.

Looks like after Nate Rivers weighed in, we've left the productive discussion behind altogether. So you can basically stop reading now; Nate's response and most of the ones above it are worth reading, but it's unlikely anything after this one will be.

As I am one who did not respond above Nate Rivers, I assume you are saying my response was "non productive".

I am overall a simple person, and I like to simplify things and say them in a way that makes you think. Rather than writing out an essay when there doesn't need to be for me to get my point across.

If you want to make millions, impact millions. Or.. impact few that have millions.

CDarklock, I apologize that my simple answer, and my opinion was not good enough for you.

Ironic though that while you choose to mention that others posts are "non productive", yours is not offering any value at all. Rather it seems you want to add in some of your "humor", while at the same time belittling a few who offered their opinion about what the difference is between making a few dollars and thousands.

If you want thirty gallons of milk, go to thirty stores. Or... go to one store and buy thirty gallons of milk.

Personally, I think it's pretty sad that I have to. I'd really rather make more posts like #7 in this thread.

You did notice that one, didn't you?

I mean, before you posted in this thread... you read it, right?

Instead of just reading the OP, spouting off your own opinion, and only paying attention to what got posted after you showed up?

Oh, who am I kidding... probably not. After all, most of your posts are in the WSO forum.

I think that the key difference is the person doing it. It is as much about sweat and tears as good ideas. What is that saying? A successful business is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. Or something like that.

    He who dares wins.

Well, it depends on what you are selling and how you are selling it. In reality, it comes down to finding a repeatable process that work and you do it over and over while improving it.

There are many reasons one person makes more than someone else. I'm wondering how much split testing one of those not making as much has done? Do you realize one single word on a page, one little graphic, etc can make all the difference?

Another reason is traffic. If you're using SEO, what keywords are you targeting, how well is your page optimized?

There are so many factors that go into every aspect of making money online. My guess is that if someone is making any money or very little, they just need the right coach or mentor to show them why and tell them what to do to correct it.

Also, some people are just smarter than others.

Please, any input on this question is appreciated....

I currently run a paid subscription site which offers education to aspiring day traders, swing traders, and investors. I'm debating whether I should turn this into a free service and focus on monetizing my content. My thought is that I could reveal more content about the material and have more to work with if I offer it as a free service. What do you think?

Sorry if this is off topic. I didn't know where else to ask this question.

The difference is between hardwork, creativity etc.. Smart people will tend to carry on doing things that are already generating money for them, reinvesting most of their earnings back to making more money.. On the other hand, there are people who will spend those money on cars, doodads etc (basically buying liabilities).. that's why their earning doesn't grow much, if it grow at all..
