This really makes me maaaad!!!

Just found out that a couple of people have stolen the discount code I went to the trouble of getting with the product owner and are using it with their own affiliate links (and thus getting commission off MY discount code).

It annoys me when I've gone to the trouble of building a relationship with the developer of the application I'm selling, agreeing a discount code, and advertising the promo.

Then I just find that some lazy gits have just signed up to my list, just to get the discount code, and are now hawking it with their own aff links!!!

There's probably not much that can be done (would be great if those commissions could be tied to the discount code and tied to MY account...), but grateful for any suggestions.

    You could try sending them a Cease and Desist, but I doubt that would practical or useful, really.

    In future I definitely think this needs to be tied to YOUR commissions, as a unique code. I would assume most software would support this kind of thing. At the very least, the seller could pay you commission instead of those people who stole the code?

    I don't know the legalities of this. But apart from talking to the seller and trying to stop those other guys getting paid commissions, I don't think there is much you can do.

      I'm looking into whether the store he's with can tie in those commissions (it's e-junkie).

      Not sure of the legality of him refusing to pay other affiliates their commissions either.

      Guess I'll probably just change it every couple of days with him, just to at least keep the thieves on their toes!

      The discount code should be your AFFILIATE ID.

      Ideally there should be no need to use your affiliate id when YOUR discount code is used. Ask the program owner if this is possible with his/her current setup.

      eg: user visits website from anywhere, uses YOUR discount coupon/code and you get the commission because your coupon/code was used.

      No need for an affiliate id then

        Yes - I've left a question on the e-junkie support forum to see if this is possible. I guess the product owner himself could manually transfer all commissions to me, away from the other sellers, but I'm not sure how ethical/legal that would be. (Probably as ethical as stealing someone elses discount code!)

        Would be good though, as I'd have a few people selling for my benefit for a while! LOL!
