Many of you are saying...

Most IM newbs get buried under a mountain of information. I'm beginning to feel that weight after a couple of weeks. I thought selling my ebook ideas would be a cinch, but now my head is starting to spin.

Can anybody make a recommendation for how much time I should invest in my early education before diving in? I am willing to make a few mistakes, but would prefer to avoid unecessary blunders.

Any thoughts?

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

I would say that you really only need the basic knowledge as far as knowing how to create a website or blog, knowing how to drive targeted traffic, how to write decent sales copy, how to create and format e-documents (if you plan to create your own products), where to get covers and graphics.

When you know all that stuff, you already have a good foundation for making money, and you can keep learning and building on it as you go.

I understand what you meant when you said you wanted to avoid unnecessary blunders, but understand that those blunders teach us a lot! I don't think it's possible to learn everything and then put it into action flawlessly the first time around. I think we each have to go through our own little "trial by fire" where we stumble and fall a few times.

The important thing is to not let fear of making mistakes hold you back! Do your best and you will learn from it and keep getting better and better.

    Hope that helps.

Don't allow yourself to get paralyzed by information overload. Everyone makes mistakes. I've made my share since I got serious about online marketing back in the early 90's, and I still make them today. My next major release will be the "Weapons of Mass Marketing" system next year, and I know ahead of time that we'll make mistakes with that one, too.

We try our best. We research, we plan, we test, and then we launch... and inevitably, there's something that we didn't plan for. I think that many people learn best by doing. So get some experience under your belt.

Don't let anything stand in your way!

I would say learn the basics and go do your thing. If you hit any problems just ask a question in here, that way your taking action and learning as you go on!

I started not too long ago myself but I come from information technology field so some of the aspects of how to build sites and so on are no problem to me. I'm learning how to promote sites and sell products on them once people show up. My best advice that I have concluded so far would be to read, read and read some more, but start doing as well. There are many people who read and read and read some more but how are you gonna make any money if you don't put your knowledge to test? Get some basics down and then start trying.

    Good luck!
