Does anybody have a good guide on creating good banners?

I've been trying to find an affordable banner designer for some time now and haven't had any luck. All the decent designers I've found are demanding $20+ per banner, which is outrageous in my opinion.

So I'm taking a swing at the task myself, but I'm not really sure what makes a good banner lol. Do any of you have a good guide on what makes a banner "good"?

I'm not asking how to make a banner, I already know how to use the tools to create them. It's the "making them look nice and actionable" is the part I'm stuck on.

Thanks

    Hi,

You can get them done on Fiverr.

Also - if you see anywhere offering a free Banner Offer,
maybe they have a built in creation engine

I'm not suggesting a straight-up swipe here, more of a research expedition...

Do a search for banner designers and study their online portfolios. Focus on the ones related to your product and the ones that make you curious enough to click. Try to determine what makes them good, and incorporate the same elements in your own efforts.

I've been able to make my own banners that outperform those provided by clickbank vendors for their own products. I put them on my affiliate sites.

I don't mess with adding graphics or anything... I just make a simple text banner that piques interest and invites clicks.

A good example is those penny stock ads that you'll see on Yahoo that have a full paragraph... those guys are obviously pillaging with those, and that's where I got the idea actually.

Depending on the size and shape of the banner
you want - text banner may be best.

But if you have a sizable banner and its for your affiliate link
and the product website has a
great product image - why not use it?
