How I Made $1300 Selling on Flippa and How You Can To if You Learn from My Experinece!

First is first, I am not an Internet Marketing Expert so please don't assume that I'm telling you how to get rich. This is just some of my experience that I've had while doing internet marketing.

Since I joined Flippa under the user name LowBudgetSites I never had any successful sales. I read ebooks and WSO's that taught how to sell brand new sites for profit. Selling brand new sites on Flippa DOES work, however, I am not good at it.

About two months ago I was urgently in need of a new laptop. To make long story short, my old laptop was just too old to run some of the software that I use and would randomly freeze, after a few upgrades that didn't fix the problem, I decided that it was time to buy a new laptop.

I didn't have the money, but I did have an adsense site that was making me about $2 to $3 dollars per day. I honestly didn't want to sell this site because I wanted to build my adsense income but I was desperate for a new laptop. I knew that it could easily sell on Flippa since it was making money already but the question was, how much are buyers willing to pay? After all, I had put in a great deal of work on this site and honestly, I did pretty good with the keyword research and rankings.

Right off the bat, I knew that I would not take less than $500 for this site but if I could get $900 then even better!

I wanted to use ESCROW.com for payment method instead of Paypal because of the horror stories that I've heard about sellers being scammed by the buyers. That led me to come and ask advice on the warrior forum. Click Here to see that Thread.

Right after posting I received a PM about someone interested in the site. This person was actually a credible warrior, I had seen some of his posts before and he is actually a legit person. However, it turned out that he thought I was asking too much, by no means was he putting me down, he was simply stating his opinion and I respected that. This is what he told me...

"Hey dude, best of luck on the sale. To get $900 I think you'd need to prove earnings for multiple months because your rankings or earnings could slide all over the place. I honestly can't see anyone paying much more than $500 but who knows. Can't hurt to try. I personally wouldn't pay a dollar over $300 just because there isn't enough history with the site.
Best of luck man."

So as you can see, I was kind of discouraged anyways, but none the less, I was determined to try. I put up my site for sale with a lot of income proof and analytics data. However, I set my reserve price at $500 because that was the minimum that I was willing to take and I set the Buy It Now at $900 because that's how much I really wanted.
I also set the starting bit at $100.

Well, what I discovered was that the lower you set the starting bid the more actual bids you will get on your site. The more bids, the better, because this shows bidders that there are other people interested in the site that they are bidding on.

I realized that this causes a BUY IT NOW impulse and even when the reserve price was met, it only took about 5 minutes after that for someone to hit the Buy It Now Button. Auction SOLD! $900 for me!
Here is the proof.

I was impressed with the results so I did another auction but this time it was for 7 mini sites that were bringing in about $45 dollars per month in adsense. I sold these for $600. In the past I had tried selling these here on the forum but people would only pay about $30 to $50 for each site. So I will never again sell adsense sites here on the forum.
Here is that auction.

Well, that is about all I have, just wanted to share my experience with you guys. Sorry it's so long. And even if someone on the warrior forum tells you that your site is only worth $300 dollars, someone on Flippa might be willing to pay 3 times that amount. After Flippa and Escrow fees my total profit was around $1300 or so.

Great job, I don't know why the PM would say that it is not worth more than $300, because even though it has only a three month history, an average profit of $50 per month is clearly worth more than $300 to passive income buyers on Flippa.
Great job, now rinse and repeat!!

Another tip is to not have a reserve price and state that in the auction title, it will attract more bids and thus social proof.

I know, i thought about doing this also, but I was too scared to not get the $500 minimum. Maybe next time.

I've sold MANY more books for $47 then given away for free to people that ask. Just goes to show the value is in perception of value to the customer.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I will say that there are sites that have sold on Flippa for $3,000+ that had no traffic and no earnings. Build a system for people that aren't good at it and then sell them on where they can take it from there.

Great job! Your absolutely right about people's impulse buying habits. Using Buy It Now its a great way to drive up the value of a sale. The fear of loss makes people crazy, which is good for you and I

Great job! I have been thinking of doing this for awhile. I have several sites I can not keep updated and really should hand them off to someone else to promote but I just can't make myself part with the income...

Even at 2 and 3 dollars a day, it's hard to stand up for something you believe in and take the plunge in order to better yourself and your business.

Thanks for the tips! If I decide to finally take the plunge and clear out old sites I will be sure to utilize these tips. I have also been wondering about the Reserve vs No Reserve auction... As I have Amazon sites that are similar to the adsense sites you sold, but I had the same price range in mind that I wanted for them as you did for these and was just unsure rather or not folks on Flippa would see the value...

What have you found to be the bigger selling point? The ranking or the income?

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing the Flippa tips others post

Honestly, for me I think the income and actual proof of it. I know people on flippa sell sites and claim "potential" income but I have just never been good at selling start up sites.

Thank you for sharing this experience.

This just shows us again how easily human psychology can be manipulated and I think that people that get their investment back in less than a year still get a good deal.

I will definitely go and give this a try myself, too, when I need some urgent money.

Solid job, buddy. I'm proud of you, to be honest!

Going to try this stuff out myself in the near future. Think they'd be interested in Swedish websites over at Flippa?

Just want to ask you how do you drive traffic to your listing in flippa?

Do you use any listing upgrade?

How many days do you list your site in flippa?
