Trouble with Craigslist....

Hey warriors,

I've been trying to use Craigslist ads, but I dont know why my posts are not displaying.

Even though I get an email confirmation from the website, when I search for my ad, its not there.

Then I changed computer and email, and the same thing. I waited 2 hours for the ad to appear and nothing.

Can somebody tell me what's going on.

Thanks.

Something about your ads looks spammy to CL so they are ghosting them.

Thanks Rick, so what is the solution here?

It is hard to say what is wrong with them but it could be almost anything.

Try posting a simplified version of your ad and see if that shows up. Then work from that and see how it goes. This is fixable it just takes some work.

    Thanks Rick.

Do you think the link is ghosted? Could that be possible?

    Thanks

Make an ad without the link and see what happens. That could be it.

I say 99% chance it is the link that you are posting that trigger the auto-delete.

Also, I should ask, are you posting in your geo location/ city/state etc or trying to post out of area? ..makes a difference.

Start out by posting in your own city, also make sure you're putting the ads in the right category. I used to play with CL ads quite a bit and found that the ads you post within your current city seem to stick better.

I personally gave up with craigslist long time ago.
I hate dealing with a kind of lunatic ghost.
I use ebay classified ads. For $10.00 my ad last for
a month and with much better results.

You'll lose all your hair trying to figure out craigslist methods. They have an unorthodox way of doing things that could drive you crazy. I don't deal with them anymore.

If you are having difficulty getting your ads posted I'd like to ask a couple of questions and even give you a few tips that I use when posting.

1: What section are you posting your ad and is your ad relevant to that section. (Note: It's not relevant to place a business opp into a job posting even if you designed the add to look like a job opening)

2: Is your ad similar to other ads you have recently places in the past two weeks?

      Tips:

If you have an ad that links to an affiliate website, or simply want to place the same ad in multiple cities. It's best that you create the ad and turn it into an image. HTML ads reduce a lot of potential headaches when you do not have an archive of unique ads or even a unique domain.

Your ad titles must me unique. There is no way around this, try changing up the words in your title so that even though its worded differently it still sends the client the same message.

Do Not post multiple ads in the same city. It will be ghosted automatically. I usually go down the list of states and post accordingly. If you want you can visit alexa.com ,list the most popular cities according to the site and simply post in those cities.

Although this may vary depending on time zones and what you are promoting. I usually get better response posting mid afternoon, my assumption is simply because this is when people are out of work and heading home.

Let me know if you have any specific questions to further help you out son.

Hi Jacob, or anyone else with conclusive answers to my questions please...

        1) Do you know if CL is less likely to ghost ads in the Real Estate For Sale section? I'm asking because a realtor friend of mine has been blissfully posting multiple ads in many cities in the Real Estate For Sale section and hasn't been ghosted even once. He has no clue about "ghosting" or flagging but his ads are going live.

        2) What is the point of creating an image out of your ad over just copying and pasting in the HTML? Is CL friendlier to an image over HTML?

        3) When you say "don't post multiple ads in the same city" ...but what if the ads are different with different titles?

        Thanks
        Steve

Probably not. I would think it is something much more common than that. Getting flagged because of a URL is likely not to be the case unless the site itself is offensive or you have massively spammed craigslist. If in the unlikely chance that is the case, use a URL shortener.

Makes a difference when they do manual reviews, however in their ghosting system location doesn't mean anything as long as you are in the USA. I have never seen any indication that this is the issue. As of right now, your IP location, and area code of your phone number are just rumors of being a signal in the ghosting algorithm.

I don't know how you can say ebayclassifieds is anywhere near as better or even equal to craigslist. Such lower quality traffic, if you even get traffic! We do a lot of classified posting, craigslist, ebay, and backpage, and craigslist is on top of the list, with ebay being last on the list.

TWalker, the pros of ebay classifieds is that you can post 25 a day. The cons of posting on ebay is that out of those 25 ads you might be lucky to get the same traffic as you would from ONE craigslist ad.

If you were considering to dump craigslist, then move to backpage where there is no limit. Backpage traffic is still sucky in comparison but its better than ebay.

1.) Ads have the same ghosting algorithm whether it is in services, gigs, or for sale. Your friend has been lucky so far. I have an account that never ghosted until a month ago, it is always only a matter of time depending on how much you post.

2.) Creating an image and renaming the images allow you to create multiple ads fast without tripping up the system. Image ads are not as effective as text ads in my testing, but they are the easiest to mass post if you have enough accounts.

3.) You can still be faced with the possibility of ghosting. I post multiple ads in the same city... some stick some don't. You won't be ghosted until they manually catch you, which only happens if you get flagged enough or have extreme bad luck.
