Offering a personal discount, against the rules?

Is offering a personal discount if someone buys a clickbank or other product( Amazon) from you against the rules? I'm curious because I have seen several websites lately with an offer like this. I assume they refund buyers via paypal?

Yes, the ones I've seen refund using paypal. I haven't ever heard of this being a problem. i figured you can do what you want with your commission, including sending someone a gift. But I am curious if anyone has heard otherwise.

Sorry - not quite right, I'm afraid, Thom.

I know nothing about Amazon (other than what I've learned from being one of their best book/CD customers, I mean).

As far as Clickbank's concerned, it is against the rules.

      Here's the paragraph concerned:-

Don’t offer bonuses of cash or cash equivalents (such as gift cards) for customers who purchase a product through your HopLink. This is not allowed in ClickBank’s Client Contract. You can, however, offer other types of bonuses, such as additional ebooks or related products, to customers who purchase through your HopLink.

        Thanks Alexa, I stand corrected.

Nothing I've ever done anyway, as I'm into promoting the big Clickbank launches, but it's also one of those rules that's rarely enforced.

A good quick alternative to consider to offering $50 in cashback, would be to offer the customer their choice of $50 of your products free.

  • There's absolutely no reason why you can't do this. Giving rebates for buying physical products is common.

Some marketers do frown on this for their products however, particularly with the big ClickBank launches, so it's always worth paying special attention to any terms and conditions when you participate in these.
