I thought I had it all under control, but then I realized I may be making it way harder than it needs to be because I don't know how it should go. So this is what I'm trying to do.

Each author on my wordpress site will have their own "website" within my website. Do they need to create pages in order to have separate content on there or CAN it be done all via posts? This would be like informational pages, not blogs. And when you log in as an author, you can't create a page, so that would mean I'd have to manually create and edit all 55 bloggers pages that they wanted to have unless there was a way for them to just list their webpages as blogs.

There must be another way. With the blog posts they can at least do all their own editing and adding, but how I do link to those posts in their custom menu?

I have a terrible time trying to explain what I'm trying to do if you haven't noticed.

:confused::confused:

    Just thinking out loud (I haven't ever tried this, so).

    You might be able to use a CMS like Drupal or Joomla. I think they might be able to restrict user signups to the point that you could control who gets approved as an author and who doesn't. That way, you don't have to micromanage their content; you just get to approve each individual writer, and let them do their own uploading.

    If you're married to the idea of WordPress, I don't know what to tell you. (Sorry.) However, WP does position itself as a CMS, too, so there must be a way. Maybe. You may have to find a 3rd-party plugin or extension.

      Well it seems to be the way I should be setting it up is as a multisite thing - I found the code I need to change on the wp-config, but I have no idea where it goes?

      define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

      Anyone know?

      Read my pm first before dropping the hairdryer.

        Hi ReikiGirl,

        So was the multisite option for Wordpress able to do what you wanted for your multi-author site? I'm interested because I have a community I'm trying to build that needs to allow many different authors (whom I've approved, and are current with their membership subscription) to add and edit their own content.

        I'm very experienced with Joomla, as I've built several large sites with it, but I really think Wordpress can accomplish what I'm looking for in an easier fashion. I've built many Wordpress sites, but never one where I needed to have many users contribute content.

        In some ways, I think a forum would achieve some of the things I need, but it's not the format I'm looking for.

        By the way, as of Wordpress 3.0, the Codex refers to a multisite as a 'Network' or 'Network of Sites'. There is some really valuable information on how to set them up and use them at codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network.

        There is also a really easy 'Enable Multi-site' plugin than saves you the trouble of messing with code.

        How is the multisite working out for you?

        Jill, what did you have to contribute? I'm curious what your PM was?
