Question about my Wordpress website

So i recently created a thread to have people critique the website I have as the first link in my sig. I got some good information! However I have a very important question about the overall way I am conducting my websites.

One person told me that they didn't notice any recent posts. I understand that my main page won't show that as I am using categories and some simple coding to hide certain content from showing on the front page. The reason was so that the main focus of my website was centerfold. Now I am wondering if I should allow all my posts onto the front page as it would then show all my content and thus give me higher credibility?

Thanks in advance

That depends. If you have a good navigation with drop down menus or recent/best posts in you side bar that could actually be better because you could still control what you want your readers to see.

Hi Dan, You got nice information on there, but yeah, I wasn't sure if I get the latest news either. If you can do that, I would pull up the recent posts on the right even above your "about me". I found the TPG Get Posts plugin very helpful you can use a shortcode like this to display your choice of posts:

      Code:
      [tpg_get_posts category="6,8,7" show_meta="false" post_entire="false" fields="post_title, post_excerpt" fields_classes ="p_title_class, p_content_class" suppress_filters="true" numberposts=3]
      Cheers,

      Valentin

P.S.: Is there a reason why you do not "nofollow" the blogroll and some of the resources?

Most of your seo comes from your home page so it should be easy to find content that your site visitors are searching for

You could also install a popular posts plugin in your sidebar

I agree with Sheila, if you want to maintain the focus of your site as you currently have it just place a "recent posts" widget in the sidebar. Maybe an even less intrusive place though would be in a widgetised footer if your theme allows that or you have the skills to amend the theme.

Might help if you had a link to the site in this thread as well.

You had a reason for why you set up your website the way you did, it might be out-of-the-box and others might not get it but I say roll with it and see what happens.

Too many people think something has to be a certain way because that is all the know but it doesn't mean it's the right way or even the best way.

I don't think having a typical blog layout is going to give you any more credibility, if anything, your just blending into the herd like everyone else using wordpress without imagination.

Design your site so your traffic sees what you want them to see and does what you want them to do. You have a purpose for your website and it's up too you to make it happen.

I dropped the code for hiding the categories I was basically using as pages. I just want to see if it helps or hinders things, so I'm just testing it a bit. Whatever works I will keep it at. Its a pretty simple code to add into my theme. Thanks everyone for the advice and help.
