One Realization All Warriors Should Make...and Thank You!

Warriors,

As I write this, I have just finished two finals (8 hours of testing in civil engineering), so bear with me

I am still relatively new to the IM game, only finding out about IM about 7 months ago, and becoming active on this forum in August. Although I am new, I know that this is what I want to do with my life. I absolutely love the entrepenuerial possibilities that are available to anyone who has the guts and gusto to think big and chase a dream.

While I am still only slightly profitable in IM, I just recently launched my product (revamped), and just Know I'm on the verge of being successful with this project (after about 3 months working on it), but I'm getting off topic.

The reason I'm posting is because I had a realization. While studying for these finals, I told some of my fellow civil engineers that I was switching my major, only about 5 courses shy of getting my degree. I'm switching my major simply to graduate 1 semester faster because school is doing nothing but taking up my valuable time to pursue my business endevours.

When I told them this news, their faces looked blank and confused.

"Huh? What? What will you do with your life?" they said.

"I'm getting really into marketing" I said, trying to figure out a way to describe this to normal people. That went over well...haha. I might as well have been speaking Martian at that point. Nothing could possibly penetrate the image of "what life should be" that is planted in these kids brains.

Grow up, go to school, go to college, get a degree, do that job and increase your salary 5% a year for the best 30 years of your life, retire (hopefully) so that now, at 70, you can do the things you've wanted to do all your life.

Thanks, but no thanks.

This made me realize just how much my mindset has changed in the recent 6 months. Much of it was done on my own, reading books and all the information I could get my hands on. But, so much of it is due to you warriors, and this is where my thank you comes in.

Thank you all. Thank you all just for being who you are and allowing me the oppurtunity to glimpse into your lives on a daily basis. Your consistent presence has allowed me to fully embrace my dreams, because I know like I know like I know that it is possible/enevitable that I succeed. Your presence has helped me to never waver in this pursuit, and for that I'm truly grateful.

Here's the realization that all Warriors need to make, and I'm sure many of you already have. Not only does this wonderful internet provide us all a means to make more money, spend more time with our families, travel more, do more, have more, and live more, but it gives us the ultimate power.

The knowledge, better yet, wisdom available to all of us because of places like the warrior forum is priceless. The ability for any joe shmoe to share information with the smartest and most inovative minds in the game is just incredible when you think about it.

Imagine if any commoner could have been taught physics by Einstein, or meditation by the Maharishi, or battle tactics by Sun Tzu. I'm sure they would have been truly grateful and humbled by the experience.

We have this experience right here and now, completely for free and available to everyone!

So for anyone struggling, make this realization and keep on going. It is inevitable that you will succeed as long as you keep this realization in mind, avoid focusing on any negatives, and take action on your dreams.

To anyone who's a success, realize that your continued participation in this forum is so valuable to this world, even if you are making posts which do not specifically contain "IM nuggets of gold".

And just to bring an end to this rant, I want to give another thank you! If there's one fool-proof way to make money on the internet, it's by putting yourself out there, knowing its possible, and never giving up.

Regards,

Noah Tyrrell

    Nice share Noah,

I see a lot of myself in the things that you have written. I still can't get over the incredible opportunity that IM presents. The ability to open up a "storefront" that can be accessed by anyone in the world at their home. And we are still in the wild wild west of the internet here, there is room abound for serious marketers to step in and grab their "pie".

It's also an asset to you that you will have your degree. Not only is it something to fall back on, but it adds some credibility for you too.

I love, and agree with your whole post!!

I pulled my kids out of public school for a lot of the same reasons you stated. I don't want my kids to grow up to be drones of everybody else. At 10 & 13 (my 16 year old is unfortunately still in government school) my daughters have the world open to them. We've been unschooling for about four years and they've benefited in so many ways. We have actually benefited as a family because our lives are based in freedom, trust and joy.

Thanks all for your replies! Joanne, great to hear. Although I am long ways away from having kids, I can tell you there's no chance they're going to public school to learn how to be worker bees. I totally agree with you on that one.

As long as you keep the kids interacting socially in other ways, homeschooling destroys public schooling hands down!

Yes, absolutely! I only wish I had taken them out sooner.

As far as social stuff....unless you live under a rock or on a remote island, it's not a problem. LOL The nice thing about unschooling is we can be social ON OUR TERMS. There are days that my kids want to be home, be in their own thoughts, do their own thing, reading, watching movies, playing playstation and just having some alone time. Then there's days that we're out hanging out with friends, going places, getting together with other people, being involved in scouts and sports. What's nice about it is we have the choice. It's all about balancing our lives and listening to our own heart.

Like today for example....my ten year old was in all day. She read a book about Albert Einstein, watched Star Wars on dvd, played in her outside kitchen, rode her bike, went online, made a Christmas craft, jumped on the trampoline, relaxed in our hot tub, talked on the phone wth a friend making plans for a sleepover and is now packing a small backpack for a day trip we're taking to Disney World tomorrow. On the flipside...my 13 year old was out all day. From 10:00 AM-4:00 PM she was at a horse farm she volunteers at every week with a bunch of her friends. She came home for an hour to take a quick shower, do the dishes, grab something to eat and ran out again to attend her football practice until 6:30 tonight.

          Life is very good.

            Hi Noah,

Great post and I couldn't agree more! My wife is a "former" civil engineer, my father is a retired civil engineer, and I "formerly" worked for an engineering firm.

I was miserable. Fighting traffic every day, expected to work 70 hours per week for the year end 5%, etc. (I could go on forever). The folks at the office looked at me as if I had two heads when I told them I was leaving the field after 11 years.

I am also pleased that my "awakening" did affect another "former 70 hours per week lifer" and that person is also enjoying life again.

And I moved home to be with family and friends and I enjoy every day, with lower blood pressure too!

Here's the lesson I preach to my kids:

If you want freedom (both time and money) then:

        1. Go to school
        2. Acquire knowledge
        3. Do NOT get a job
        4. Start and own your own business

#1 son listened - graduated college in May, moved out in June, has a successful and growing business with many more income opportunities resulting from following this model. He cheated though and started it when he was 14.

#2 son is in college and starting to comprehend this lesson.

#3 son in still in high school, being lazy and may get exactly what he is trying to avoid when he graduates. A low paying job.

The point is "you must be a business owner".

        Regards,

        John

Joanne, glad to hear life is good!

Scott, awesome to hear from another engineer who turned entrepreneur. I have nothing but respect for the engineering profession, but I guess some people were meant to be handling contracts and others were meant to be handing them out. Glad to hear you have lower blood pressure, but it wasn't hard to achieve once you stopped working 70 hour weeks

"Huh? What? What will you do with your life?" they said.---

Yeah, I remember this when I dropped out. But the whole time, I was thinking this very same thing about THEIR lives...

    Keep on keepin on,

Mad Dawg just got my vote for a thank you. I got tired of working for a "job" and making everyone else's dreams come true. Cheers to everyone who would rather live outside the box. Peace.

PS- since there are some engineer's in WF- if it makes anyone else feel better I dropped out of comp eng.
