An Interesting Thought

I currently have a website that I've been working on . . . well, pretty much since the beginning of my IM career. It has a popular blog, a dating site (which I just added but is taking off like a rocket), and an active forum attached to it. It currently gets about 60,000 unique visitors a month and is still growing.

I was thinking about the potential of selling it in about 2 years, with a ridiculously large price tag, if it keeps growing at the same rate.

Then I started thinking about selling authority sites. I was wondering if someone spent an entire year on just 8 websites (or less depending on how much time that you have). Imagine posting content to these websites 5 days a week. By the end of the year you'd have 260 posts per website, probably a boat load of traffic, and if monetized correctly you'd certainly have a decent amount of money coming in. Now imagine selling all of them, in one shot. I know there are a lot of people who would say, why not keep them, but this is all just a pretend scenario. Say that you wanted to buy a house or something.

How difficult do you think it would be to make $100,000 a year building and selling authority sites of this level, if say, you sold each site for around $10k-$15k.

I honestly don't know much about flipping websites so I'm not even sure that this would work. I'm just a bit curious, as I know that a lot of people who flip websites try to build them and flip them off with no more than about 20 pages of content.

I also understand that there are a lot of different variables calculated into how much a website is actually worth. Regardless, I imagine you'd get a ton more money for a website with an aged domain, over 200 pages of unique content, and a good amount of backlinks than you would for a website with a 1 month old domain with only 20 pages of unique content, few backlinks, and little traffic.

I'm just wondering if experienced website flippers would think that this would work.

Well first off I think a congratulations for the dating site you own is in order, thats quite a result. I hope your monetising those 60,000 visitors a month

The idea is feesable, im not a site flipper myself but I think that if you were to build 8 sites of this calibre then 100k a year is very possible. Maybe you'd even hit a gem at some point and find that a site you own is earning way more than you expected and you decide to keep it?

My thought would be to try it out, make it your project for the next year, maybe even post a thread to show your progress? That would be very interesting to follow.

I would consider making it my project but I'm currently unemployed/self employed . . . so building quick money sites is more feasible to keep me alive at the moment, which is what I've been doing.

This other website was a hobby project, but I've recently been focusing more on monetizing it. It has Kindle blog subscribers and I sell a product off of it and what not.

I'm sure if someone did this, I'd think that at least 1 out of the 8 sites would end up being a keeper. Heck, with that much work, they probably all would. I was just curious as to what to expect from selling that many sites of that caliber a year.

I'm sure we'd all be happy with $100,000 a year. And keeping up with 8 websites really isn't a whole lot of work.

    Hi
I would never sell any website until 50 years, or close to retirement, why should i if a website is on a wave?

All the best, and keep pushing tight!
    Thanks

If you build a profitable business there is always someone willing to buy it - start thinking of yourself as a business builder and then a business seller.
