Good afternoon everyone this is my first post on this forum. I have been poking around some of the forums for a few months but I need to see if I can find some help. I am 30 years old and currently unemployed, I am on the search for a job but am having horrible luck. I have gone to business school for 3 years and have a year to go to get my bachelors degree in Business Administration. For 12 years now I have known that the internet is where I need to be to make a decent living but its always just a dream I never pursuit this dream. I have a more than average knowledge of computers and the internet, I am usually the one out of most of the people I know that people call if they have questions on where to look for stuff online or if they need something done on their computer. I really am looking to get into some kind of E commerce or possibly marketing, I have been reading a lot about affiliate marketing, and ebay selling with auctions etc. My brother has been using Vendio but has not made any money AT ALL. I am a very motivated person and right now have all the time in the world to get something going. I have a lot of interest in Electronics, I know everywhere you look people are selling electronics online but its one thing I think I am pretty good at. Anyways I was wondering if anyone out there that has had success in internet business can point me in the right direction. Should I order a program that gives you a website etc etc.. I see so many but I dont know which ones are scams and which ones would really be helpful.. If anyone knows of any that could help me get started please offer your advice. THANKS IN ADVANCE for any help anyone can provide me.
~MATT

  • Hi M82680. Here are the fundamental elements of an online business, in my opinion:

    1. Market Research -- This involves industry, sub industry, niche/main category, sub niche/sub category, consumer market, online consumer market, online sub consumer market, competitor, competing product/service, affiliate product/service market and buyer keyword research and analysis...

    2. Product/Service Development or Affiliate Product/Service Identification or Advertising and Lead Generation Income Planning
    3. Business Workflow and Growth/Expansion Plan Formulation
    4. Offline and Online Content Development Plan Formulation

    5. Offline and Online Marketing Campaign Plan
    6. Onsite and Offsite Marketing Campaign Plan
    7. Plan Implementation
    8. Monitoring and Constant Development

    Hi Matt.

First of all, welcome to WF.

If you want to start your own online business, go for it. If you are perseverant and dedicated and work hard, you can succeed online.

It seems that you are looking for a "serious business", what gives you a great advantage (specially considering your business school background). Many people want just to make some quick money online and lack any kind of business mindset. this makes success more difficult, at least in a long-term.

Now, what to do? No answer for this. There is a lot of opportunities here and which one go after, depends on your preferences, knowledge, and budget.

E-commerce is a good thing if you have some budget to invest and, after a little market research, you know what you want to sell. I'm not an expert on it, so I cannot not advice you here.

Selling services online. Similar to e-commerce but without logistic and storage worries. If there is any service you can offer, it is a great way to start. Even though you can offer your services at Elance, Odesk..., you will need some budget for promotion if you want to see results fast.

Affilite marketing. A good starting point. There is no-risk. The investment is minimal. You can work on different niches and try as many of them as you want. In most of the cases, it needs some time before you start seeing results.

My suggestion. Choose one model and stick to it. Do not jump from one think to another. You need to stay focus.

Creating your own products and selling them. You can combine this with affiliate marketing or offering services or do it alone.

    Hope it helps.
