What price point for membership site

I've been seeing a lot of posts with folks asking what to price their membership site at. And a lot of discussion about higher priced membership sites has been going on.

For my sites, whether membership or not, I try to think "what price would I realistically pay for for this service?" ---- then I cut that price in half. I think that makes it a no brainer for people who are reading my sales page.

If you still want to raise the price, then once you have a lot of members and demand for your site is high, then you can adjust to whatever the market will bear for new members. That's where split testing would come into play.

    I would say this is a sig driven post , but you are right about asking yourself what you yourself would pay for the service. That's what I do. I also found that pricing cheap gets a better signup rate and retention rate

    it is good idea to find out how much you will pay for this type of membership. But you also need to understand if the price is too low then people might not subscribe.

    First: Decide what you would spend.
    Second: Decide how cheap would make you think it's worthless?
    Third: Set your price accordingly.
    Fourth: Test
    Fifth: Test
    Sixth: Don't forget to Test

    It's usually easier to lower a price later than to raise it, unless you handle it with a 'if you're currently a member, you keep the same membership price as long as you stay' or a 'new members this price, existing members keep their current price until this date'

    Most people will not complain if they are paying 39 dollars and you come back and say, effective this date, I'm dropping your renewal price to 29. But a lot will bemoan an increase from 27 to 29.

      I would NEVER raise the price for existing members. My feeling is they helped me build my site and my business up, so I'm gonna keep it the same price forever for them. I would only raise for new members.
