Do NOT Use Firefox 4! (revealing videos)

If you are anything like me, you were pissed when you upgraded to Firefox 4.

You thought, "WTF.... is this Google Chrome?" "I hate the tabs up top, where is the title bar, why did they move my home and bookmark button, where did the status bar and all my internet marketing tools go, and why is this freaking orange button staring at me!?!?"

I thought those exact same things. I set out on a mission to get my Firefox back! Maybe some of you are happy with how your Firefox looks after upgrading to Firefox 4.. maybe some of you aren't. These videos are for the people who aren't.

Don't get me wrong.. I love Firefox 4. It seems much faster. But I wasn't happy with the look or some of the functionality.

So... Do NOT use Firefox 4.... until you make it exactly how you want!

I recorded a few step by step videos on how you can customize your Firefox 4 to be exactly how you want it.. or to just get back what you miss.

Check it out... I'll show you how to move the tabs back to where they used to be, how to get the title bar showing page titles again, how to get your status bar back with your internet marketing tools, how to move around the home and bookmark buttons, and much more.

I now feel like I am writing a WSO sales page...lol.

If you have not upgraded to Firefox 4 yet, you really should.

Please check out the videos.. they are worth it.

Oh yea.. you may hear a few parts of the video sound like it cuts out.. that's because when I listened back to the video.. I annoyed myself with some breathing in the mic, so I spent an hour editing that out so I wouldn't annoy anyone else!

I recommend you watch the videos in full screen and HD. You can do that by clicking play on the video then clicking the video so it pops open in youtube. Select 720p and open it up in full screen.

Phew! Thanks man, I thought you were going to give us some real bad horror story lol. Yeah I was also irritated by the internet marketing tools going missing (and some aren't compatible with Firefox 4 yet). Thanks for taking the time to make the videos and share them with us.

Yes, I went to 4, hated it, promptly deleted it and went right back to my old version within minutes. I see you did a lot of great work there, but what is the point, the old version is fine, why go through all this work, they will realize that 4 is a bomb and come out with 4.1 or something. My advice is to wait it out, but really thanks for all the work, Ed

I didn't quite like the way FF4 looked like initially, but I customized it with the Chrome-like theme and it has transformed into almost an identical twin!

All kidding aside, I like Firefox a lot because of the many indispensable plug-ins and add-ons that you can install. Chrome can't touch Firefox in this regard, and I find that Firefox 4 is vastly faster than FF 3.XX, and also consumes far less memory than Chrome as well.

I agree with you 100% James. I have no clue why they wanted Firefox to look more like chrome. Check out the vids and I think you will be happy with what I show you.

I think the new 4.0 looks more like a google chrome copy,I actually downloaded back to the previous version because I noticed that with 4.0 some of the marketing plugins I use don't work with 4.0 so I'll stick with the older version for a while.

I tried Firefox 4.0 few days ago but couldn't make it work properly.

I don't know why but every time I opened more than three or four sub pages, Firefox shut down.

I thought it was a Firefox problem but maybe I have some virus on my computer.

With all these nice videos on how you can customize your Firefox 4, I think I will reconsider using it.

Thanks Brent for this great tutorial.

My niece upgraded to 4 and I was over here trying to get on my talk marketing chat and for two days was told the server was down. Come to find out - FF just won't put me through to it. I've tried everything to change that. Chrome gets me there just fine. I think I'll wait until they get things figured out before I ever upgrade my FF. I'm not a tech and don't have time to mess with figuring out what they did.

Quite the opposite! I had actually been using a set of three plugins with Firefox 3 that moved the tabs up top, took away the title bar, and gave you an orange button in the corner. So to see all that as a core part of Firefox 4 made me happy!

I want to look at websites, not browser bars.

Having recently switched back to using FireFox (version 4) as my default browser, I share your disappointment at some of the layout changes. However, they're easily dealt with, as you outline in your videos/links.

I'm just not entirely certain how this justifies the thread title "Do NOT use FireFox 4", however, when the post is about how to customise FireFox 4 so that you can continue using it as before. Thread bait, much? :p

Haha.. well I originally had this at the beginning of my post:

Do NOT use Firefox 4... until you customize it!

So my thread title kinda led into that.. but then when I reread my thread I didn't like it starting with that, so I removed it.

I think all my drivers are updated. My Windows 7 updates on a regular basis.

The thing is these annoying ads I have on almost every internet pages. These ads are either coming from the top of the page or are replacing my actual internet page.

Actually even my 3.6.16 Firefox crashes sometimes but with Firefox 4.0, it's completely impossible to have a regular internet session.

I tried a lot of different anti-virus (Panda, Avast, Avira) and anti-spyware (Spybot, Ccleaner, Malwarebyte) but nothing changed .

Specifically it would be your graphics driver. If you use Driver Genius it will find it and up date it for you, or you can do it on your own. Find out what graphics card you have, find what your driver date is, then search on the internet for your graphics card and see if there is a more recent driver available.

    Firefox who?

I abandoned firefox a long time ago because of it being so unstable but I guess I will go back and give it a shot now.

EDIT: You know what, I like the new interface.

It is much cleaner and also helps you look at more of the website on the screen rather than the menu bars.

EDIT: Also, firefox 4 looks alot more than Opera rather than Chrome.

Quite right. When I first tried it out (whilst it was still in beta), the first thing I thought was "wow - it looks like Opera!" ... probably to do with the orange FireFox button in the top left (Opera has an identical one, but red, of course).

I don't really know what all the fuss is about, in relation to a lot of people's comments. Yes, the interface is slightly different, but there are themes to customise it, you can drag elements about in the desired position, and you can even remove the orange FireFox button with a simple plugin.

The only thing I don't much like about it is the fact that fonts/padding/margins look funny on some sites. Actually, I've only noticed it so far on the WarriorForum - everything is more "spaced out" then in version 3.x, IE, etc.

Getting used to it though. It's still a better browser than Chrome, I think, which kind of feels too "Mac-ish" (dare I say baby-ish/toy-ish).

You can downgrade to 3.6 here:
