Strange Problem Acessing a Website

OK gurus,

I've got one that's got me pulling my hair out. I have a specific website (doesn't matter which page of the site) that I simply can't access.

I've poked around in my computer, firewall, anti-virus, etc. checked my Firefox and IE browser settings - no 'smoking gun'.

When I attempt to access the site, FF and IE come back and say that it cannot display the page.

However, if I pull out my Blackberry, the site comes up just fine.

As a webmaster, I know that I can configure my .htaccess file to prevent specific IP addresses from accessing my site - but that would be a far-fetched scenario in this case.

Anybody got ideas?

    Hi,

This may be a problem of an ISP. Sometimes back this happen to me, while I was able to access the site from an different IP, I not able to access my site from home IP. Then I trace the route and during the process find out that one of ISP was blocking the site due to some technical issues. I had to contact them, and after a day it restored to normal.

Have you tried accessing the site from a computer at another location? Like, go to a computer store or internet cafe (anywhere you can get Internet access) and try to load the site. That will tell you if the problem is happening just on your computer, your connection, or happening to everyone. Once you know that, you can contact the site owner (if it's not you) or the host (if it's your site) and tell them what's happening.

They probably banned your IP address. Try visiting the site from another location. That should solve the problem.

    Tom,
Try visiting the site through this proxy on your office computer.
Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously

It's easy just enter the site url once you're there.
That will tell you if it is an IP problem or if it's a relaying problem.

    Michael,

The proxy worked like a charm. So I suspect it might be my ISP???

Good Idea - I know they have that capability of blocking IP addresses...but really, do they ship from the factory with this specific website blocked?

BTW, for those of you who were asking, I'm trying to get on the www.7Search.com website.

I know it's reachable, as I said, I can get there on my blackberry, just not on the office computers.

So, next I'll check the routers and then contact Comcast (the ISP).

        Hi TAllTom,

You may want to also be sure that your work firewalls are not blocking 7Search.com if this is the only site you can't access. Be sure that we are listed in your trusted sites.

you can check your routing to the site..

if your using windows iopen a command prompt and type

    tracert <sitename>

    ie.. for bbc.co.uk

    tracert bbc.co.uk

See where it fails then send the logs to your isp to fix.. normally its a router needs reset on there network..
