Screen Recording Video For Mac

I am looking for a screen recorder for Mac so I can make some vids. I need sound and I would like to be able to just capture my part of my screen that I choose.

Any Mac users out there that have some suggestions?

Two that looked promising for me were Camtasia and Screenflow. Anyone had any experience with either of those?

camtasia is best out there. If that works on mac, look no further. On the other hand, here are some more options

I have tried both with my Mac.

My recommendation? Go with Screenflow. No questions asked.

It is much more simple than Camtasia and you end up with the same quality video.

Additionally, if you pair up Screenflow (or Camtasis) with a program called Handbrake (for Mac), you can easily output high-quality videos that are optimized for the web.

    Pretty good stuff.

I would also champion Camtasia. It was fairly simple to learn the basic functions and worked great for video tutorials. Get on a 30-day trial and see if it's up your alley.

Have you considered using Jing? If you don't need editing capabilities and just want to do quick captures, it's perfect - and free.

Otherwise you can't go wrong with Camtasia...

I second SCREENFLOW for nice, big, professional movies...

And I second JING for <5 minute vids that you simply need to create and upload very fast to show someone something.

I use Jing all the time for customer support, coaching, friends... it's wonderful.

It will automatically upload your video to either a specified place on your server, or the Jing server, so you just film, click upload, and it gives you a link.

I looked at everything that is out there and I ended up with IShowU because the features and price killed everything else...I really like the program

I second iShowu as a great, cheap program. Try it out, it works very well.

been using ishowuHD for a while now. about a year i think. it's worked great until the last 2 months of updates. the customer service is great even though it's a small operation.

the major error i get is in longer presentations over 30min i can't stop the recording and when I quit the video stop out of sync with audio.

I've tried a couple things suggested by tech support but still hasn't fixed it for long movies. I've since started to tinker with camtasia and the export is SUPER SLOW compared to ishowuHD

will test out screenflow this weekend

I have used both. I suggest Screenflow.

Camtasia for mac will not do all the things camtasia on a pc does.

You can select what you want to be in the viewer area during the editing process.

You can choose if you want sound from the computer or your own external mic.

You are given pretty much as many tracks as you want to lay in both video and sound.

Upgrades on Screenflow when it happens are also significantly cheaper.

Can't you just change the source and do an iMovie capture? Wait, no, Quicktime! Here:

But i'd red-dub in iMovie for clearer sound.

Screenflow, screenflow, screenflow. MUCH better than Camtasia on a Mac in my experience - if you like macs then you'll like screenflow for all of the same reasons.

I'm going to recommend Screenflow - lots of cool editing features and zoomy in out stuff. Easy to use - like the iMovie of screencap...

    SCREENFLOW gets my VOTE!

Camtasia was GOOD, but not as good as the PC version... so for that reason - SCREENFLOW does the job!

Great discussion. I was very happy with Camtasia on PC but I've gone Mac and have a specific Q:

Does Screenflow, or any of the others recommended, allow screen writing tools to freehand draw on the screen? Or do you know of a third-party way to do it? I imagine it would be easy on an iPad but I'm on a Macbook Pro using an electronic writing tablet.

    Thanks!
