as far as server works properly with no troubles, I think it doesn`t really matter where it is

I agree with K_tir. This is what I am aware of too.

    Cheers,

I have uk based sites hosted in the states that rank higher in the UK than in the USA I think my case has more to do with the .co.uk domains the sites use.

    Hi,

The Hosting Server is nothing to do with the traffic from particular place. Internet is same for all over the world. It depends upon various other factors.

The only difference an hosting server play is the routing of your site/ time taken to open the pages which is one essential part of the website optimization.

I hope this calify the situation.

    Thanks & Regards

I think that Google is aware that the location of your web host isn't necessarily the location of your business.

I can even choose for which country my website is optimized in Google Webmastertools. So I think that this outvotes the automatic detection of Google.

Not at all, it actually helps if you have a number of servers for diversity (if you have a fair number of sites) - just set the geo-targetting in Google Webmaster tools for which ever country you wish to target.

    Yo CharlieSheenSays,

    I've heard that it does.

For example, if you want to rank for a term in the UK (as opposed to US for example), you'd want to

    - get a hosting server in UK
    - get a co.uk domain name extension
