Clickbank or my own affiliate program?

Hey Warriors,

I have completed an ebook I want to sell. The product is NOT in the IM niche. I was wondering if any of you guys would have any insights or experiences on selling through clickbank and using your own affiliate program.

Generally, which option has produced better results for you?

The 2 major benefits to Clickbank, compared to your own affiliate program are:

1.) Clickbank already has 100,000's of affiliates, many of who are looking for new products to promote...

2.) They take care of payments to affiliates, refunds, etc. (whereas with your own, there are a myriad of tax implications that you'd have to worry about...)

Honestly, as much flack as Clickbank sometimes takes, they make it super simple to get your product up and running smoothly...

    Hope this helps

Yea I understand that clickbank's advantage lies in it's wealth of affiliates. But the problem is I hear some people saying that they saved a lot of money by not selling on clickbank.

I know there are no hard and fast rules for this. I'd just like to gather opinions that's all.

Not so much. Don't let this mislead you.

They don't come flocking. You still have to attract them - maybe not in exactly the same ways as you would if selling it yourself, but you definitely need to attract them.

The reason it's so much easier to do that, when using Clickbank, is that the affiliates don't need to worry about being dependent on the vendor for payment.

      We like that.

If you're a very well-known vendor with a longstanding, impeccable reputation for financial probity and reliability, then maybe you don't need your potential affiliates to have that reassurance. But most vendors do.

Professional affiliates put an enormous amount of time, effort, energy and often money into promoting other people's products. With 14,000+ active products from which to choose, already sitting on Clickbank, none of which carries any risk of getting stiffed by the vendor for our earnings, why would a serious affiliate take a chance on an "independent" one?

Go with Clickbank. Or DigiResults. Or whatever else provides your potential affiliates with some sort of guarantee of payment. That way you avoid what will otherwise be your single biggest potential problem. That's what you're really paying for, and is how Clickbank gets away with such colossal transaction charges.

Clickbank is good because it's a big affiliate network and helps you take care of refunds, etc, so you won't have too much trouble with that.

On the other hand Clickbank does take a certain fee, it you want to to be fee-free you should use yourself as your affiliate network because PayPal and other companies don't take as much fees as clickbank.

I would recommend Clickbank for an unexperienced user, but PayPal would be an option for an experienced user who has advantages with PayPal as their affiliate network.

I think Clickbank is a good choice for now. But you will need to aggressively recruit affiliates all the same.
