List Building hasn't Worked for me....Why?....:(

Hello fellow warriors,

I suck at list building and would love to know why. I always hear that the money is in the list and unfortunately it isn't with me.

My main focus has been on the dating niche. I also worked with the gaming niche but when it comes to list building I don't see conversions.

My conversions take place when people click on the affiliate link at the thank you page but almost never with the actual autoresponder.

My traffic methods are article marketing and PPC.

I built a list of over 3,000 in the dating niche and lists of hundreds in other niches but my COMMON problem is VERY LOW open rate and click rate.

For a broadcast I get an average of a 5% open rate. That is it!

For the first follow up e-mail my best is 30%, average is 15% and sometimes even ZERO.

My list is simply not responding to me.

I give them a lot of BAIT...lots of good reports and information.

I use AWEBER as my autoresponder single-opt in form.

I am beginning to wonder are my e-mails getting thrown to peoples SPAM folder?

I feel like I am hitting a brick wall.

This has been a very frustrating experience with me and making me want to throw the towl with list building altogether and focus on pre-selling instead where I am seeing the conversions.

I could really use your feedback.

Thanks for your help.

Mark

If you want better open rates, then you need to come up with subject lines that compel people to open your emails. The content inside can be the best ever, but if they don't open it, then it might as well not exist.

Newspapers live and die by their headlines. Emails are no different.

Thanks for that- but I have been testing different subject lines and using some great subject lines. I had some people coaching me and recommended proven winners and still low open rates.

So even with apparent good subject lines I am getting very low open rates.

Do you really know your information in the dating field? If people don't take you seriously, then they will unsubscribe or just ignore you.

Yup I know. I studied it very well and actually practiced it. I spent a few years out on the field.

I think this has a lot to do with your headline then. Give an example of some of your headlines in your broadcast messages please.

          Could be few things...
You need to track your funnel...
At first you get them to your list right?
Did you use the right keyword for you niche? Maybe you just choosed keywords that broth you tone of traffic but not focus one...

The second thing is the communication, If you didn't send them the info the interest them or even the tittle maybe not been attractive enough...
Also the frequency that you sent you messages, once a day? Once every 3 days?
          Once a week?
When you give then something for free and when you pitch an offer?

The answer to all of those things is TESTING TESTING TESTING ...
You need to try and test is all... one by one... optimize your list...

It is very possible that your emails are being filtered into the spam folder - either because the users decided they were spam or because the email systems did automatically. Try sending your next few emails without any fanciness (no all-caps, no tons of exclamation marks, and NO OFFERS TO BUY ANYTHING).. just with pure useful content. These emails are less likely to get put into the spam folder. At the end of the email, write a quick PS about how some of your emails are getting sent to spam, and that if they like what you have to say, they should add you to their list of allowed contacts.

Perhaps you can post one of your emails here, so we can see what you are doing wrong?

Also, how often are you sending valuable content and reports to your list?
If they find your content useful for them, then they are more likely to click on your future emails.

Are you using double or single opt-ins?

If you're using single opt ins, that's probably why you're getting such a low open rate because email address like john[at]doe.com will definitely not get read. I'll say you're definitely doing something right, a list of 3K subscribers in the dating niche is very respectable IMO.

If you are using Aweber, which the OP said he was, whether or not you are using double or single optin, spammy email addresses like that will still need to confirm their email address before they can receive any of your emails.

Aweber has a number of things they look out for and when suspiciously spammy email addresses are used on a single optin list, they still make those people confirm.

@CheapTrafficDude i use aweber & ive done tests & noticed when you use the double opt-in... it sends your message str8 to spam/junk folder and i have my own domain not web base like yahoo or hotmail.

Also make sure to do what "Mandark"said.. and also remember when in aweber... keep you spam metter low i keep mine at 0 by having these 3 things in the message

    1 thanks...Your friend xxxxx
2 a link to your site then to offer or a cloaked aff. link
3 having your on domain email.. Ex: emailname@yoursite.com
