Eset Anti-Virus Problems

I recently had a very bad virus on another computer. Avg free was on the computer at the time but after the virus attack I loaded Eset 4. I have this on a few newer computers and there were no issues with either. Shortly thereafter the computer would accelerate and run the CPU at 100%. Thought it was the virus at first before I looked in task manager. The ekrn.exe was the culprit. Did the research and found this is an issue with many other systems. I tried everything that was listed on the internet to no avail.
My question is: Is this possibly caused by the older Intel Pentium 4 with?
Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.
