Press Release WSOs, Software &/or Services

I'm getting ready to do a Press Release - or several. I found one good thread discussing Press Releases, but from the POV of whether they're (still) effective and not specifically about which one(s) Warriors have found are best and why (although a couple of posts mentioned 1 or 2 offhandedly). http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...effective.html

So, can anyone recommend a Press Release WSO, software or service they've used - preferably recently - and had good results with, either in terms of help with rankings (how soon did it bump your ranking and how long did it last?) and/or help with back links (how many, etc.)?

And I guess posting one that you got *bad* results from would be helpful, too, as something to avoid?!

Thanks,
Richard

I don't have any info on WSO press releases but do have considerable experience with PRs both online and off. Submitting press releases online is a lot like submitting articles. You have to throw a lot out there to get anything to stick.

There are literally thousands of sites accepting press releases. Many are paid sites many are free. The thing I've noticed is many people submitting PRs have no clue how to write them.

In effect, people are submitting articles, and from what I've seen, crappy articles at that. A real press release needs to be written in a journalistic style answering who, what, where, when, why and how. But the stuff you're likely to see passing for press releases, in many cases, are glorified ads in article form. Ugh.

Now if you are promoting something offline it's likely you'll have a much different experience by submitting your PRs to conventional outlets like newspapers, TV and radio.

Since the Internet came along many of these traditional media outlets are sort of starved for decent stuff and these days a well written PR is more likely to make it into print. The downside is you often need to physically mail the release to an editor, and it needs to be a legitimate PR, not an ad.

You can sometimes make your appeal to offline outlets via email but I've not had much luck with that as most emails to established sources like print publications get snagged by Spam filters. Hope this helps.

      @ Travelinguy -

Thanks. Generally good advice, and I agree. But can you recommend any specific PR site(s), or PR writing/submission services, that you've personally used (recently) and had god (or bad) experience with?

      Thanks again,
      Richard

I've used prnewswire and prweb (both .com). They're both paid services. I saw little or no results with either. I did get some page 1 Google action with several free services though, but the niche was pretty small so it was easy to rank high with both PRs and articles. I think online press releases can have a place in your marketing efforts as one more tool. But, IMO, for huge success you'd need specialize in PRs and make it a full time gig. Good luck.
