I stumbled across a piece of software last night that I had been looking for quite a while now. I wasn't sure actually if anything quite like it existed. And certainly not for free. This is something I can see a benefit in and feel I could easily turn it into product that could be sold. Now if I was to get something similar created what would be the best avenue? Someplace like Rentacoder? Are there other places? Anyone experienced with doing something like this? Should I show them the product I found and ask for something similar? Would I have to be concerned, not being tech savy to that degree that they don't just copy the software I'm showing them. Just dress it up and give it a different face. Then down the road I run into some type of copy infringement problems. Thanks |

Hi, I found an excellent coder through guru.com. Yes, you should show them the product and explain exactly what you want. There are some seriously talented people out there and you will be surprised as to whats possible. If you want the name of the coder I used, PM me. Daniel |

As a software developer myself, I suggest you to give your coder EVERYTHING before you ask for the cost of it. If you want x,y,z in your software, don't tell your developer that you want x and y and a few days later, ask him to add z. Every developer hates this and this will increase the cost and effect communication between you and your coder. Always talk to your coder, don't see him like a worker but a friend maybe a partner. Ask for previous works, his estimation on work completion and what happens if he can't complete in that time range (this is important.). Never pay all the money before you have the product in your hands. As for what you should give to the coder, chatting doesn't help me at all. I need examples, pictures maybe a phone call. This will increase your products value. If you can't tell your coder what you want or can't explain it in details you shouldn't expect him to code what you want. An example application would be great for start. If it is a payed product, buy it for him and tell him what extra features you want, tell him to change colors, give him graphics that he can use and always - I mean always - chat with him as a friend. What about my concern that I give someone the free version and they merely copy it just changing the face or how it looks from the outside. Then down the road I run into problems because the developer copied it. Not being knowledgeable in this field myself I wouldn't know what the developer did. | |

Don't worry, coding an application is not like building a website Your coder most probably will not know how to get the codes of the free version. Your users? No chance at all.Change the look of it and it would be enough.. |

Sounds like most have had better results with elance and guru. I have had writing work done through elance, I guess I just didn't think of them as doing software coding. Thanks for all the info. |
