I think that all registrars offer privacy for a small amount added on to the base cost. But by hiding your name the credibility of your business could suffer.

I think the $2 a year is referring to privacy not the domains. However it is possible to get domains as low as that when companies are running special offers, but the prices goes up after the first year.

Sorry .. it should have read PRIVACY is $2.00 EXTRA ... I pay $8.25 per .com domain per year ...

I was so focused on the question, that I forgot that my answer could be misunderstood.

After trying all sorts of registrars, I moved all my domains there, because I like their management interface. And advantage is that they don't try 39 upsell options when buying a service.

Any place to buy a domain you should have the option to keep you name private. However it usually comes at an extra annual fee.

I know go daddy charges $9.58 / year for private registration which seems a little steep compared to some of the other options listed here.

All registrars have name cloaking. It's just NameCheap that offers it for free for the first year.

      Just a heads up...

I had 40 or so domains at Godaddy before I swapped to Namecheap where I now have 150+ domains.

I stopped using Godaddy because Namecheap is well..cheaper but I learned my lesson last week when I needed tech support for the first time ever.

Namecheap has the worst customer service of any company I think I've ever dealt with.

My redirects were not working i.e customers were not being directed to my affiliate links...i.e I lost 100s of dollars over the course of a weekend.

When I contacted Namecheap I was dealing with support for over 4 hours and they were never able to solve the issue. It finally resolved itself a few days later but I'll never know how much $$$ it cost me.

The only thing Namecheap did to try and make it up to me was give me a coupon for $.99 off my domains from now on...seriously...how many domains will I have to buy before I recoup my losses.

Godaddy on the other hand has real support where you can actually talk to someone on the phone if something goes wrong. I'll be taking all of my business back to Godaddy and recommend others do the same.

      Cheers,

      James
