What did you consider to be the hardest part of Internet Marketing?

For me right its getting my product to convert more than 0.15%

And for everyone else?

No doubt it's getting traffic, not because it is a difficult task, but because of competition.

Knowing there's always a higher conversion rate waiting for you... and having to work out how to get there. Also the most enjoyable bit too though!

      Mindset.

Without the proper mindset you're always going to find yourself struggling.

Once I got my head right making money was actually the easy part lol.

Btw, if you're having a .15% conversion chances are you ether 1) need to work on your copy or more likely 2) you are not targeting a buyer keyword.

Don't let it get you down. My first few sites got over 5,000 unique hits a month but converted at around 1/500 visitors.

I thought it was just me so I spent months tweaking and retweaking. I even hired a copywriter thinking I could learn something. In the end I learned that the keyword I picked sucked and so did the product I was trying to promote. My average earnings per hop was around 4 cents.

Then I let it go and started over. The next site I built converted at 1.4% and has for the last 15 months or so. The only difference was I targeted the buyer later in the buying cycle.

      Cheers!

The hardest part of internet marketing for me was getting over the initial learning phase and start putting down some practice!

Once I got a plan and work schedule written up and I was away, started to take action, focusing on one task at a time, and now I am successfull

For me it would be the customer base (CB). When you have a CB the traffic will naturally come as long as you serve the needs of the CB. Matter of fact, I am often overwhelmed with too large of a CB when my CB sends me more customers.

Its akin to a public website host in many ways. Public Hosts without a CB simply struggle. Unless someone like Allen stokes the CB

The toughest part for me is mindset. There are many days where I get really bored with this work (i know, i need to outsource). Then I can go 3 months with working like crazy. A healthy balance is always good.

I think the hardest part for me is self confidence.
I always get scared when it comes to advertising my business, I guess I get afraid that if I advertise and people visit the site that they will hate it and laugh at me.
I know it is an illogical fear, but definitely one of my weakest points!

I hear you. Although I'm doing very well online now, I've had to conquer quite a few fears along the way. Alot of people don't understand it (or maybe they do and they just don't talk about it), but fear can really hold you back - it definitely slowed me down in the beginning. Luckily confidence comes with experience!

While there are people in this World that do operate like that, those people are outnumbered by people with good hearts that are actually rooting for you.

I had an incredible fear of speaking in public and once I confronted that fear, I realized that most people are interested in listening to you and are not there to to laugh if you stumble.

Most of those folks feel for you when you do and are very forgiving.

I know this to be true and I hope you can think about that when you do anything that will be viewed by the public.

Are there going to be a few knuckleheads that are going to think you're an idiot for choosing a certain color on your page, or how you write?

        Of course.

But they are the minority and most people will look past your weaknesses and are looking for your strengths. That's how they want to see you.

Most of us know that we too are not perfect and that it's immature to focus on someone's imperfections.

I honestly believe that all of us have far more potential than our faults and it is the fear of exposing our faults that stops us from reaching our potential.

Sorry to the OP, didn't mean to ramble on.

    Opportunity hopping.

So many opportunities to justify not finishing anything.

Many of us hop to the latest greatest whatever while never actually implementing the last latest greatest whatever we hopped to.

I call them perpetual customers. Always buying, never selling.

Finding a niche and creating a product that:

      1. you're passionate about
      2. has low competition
      3. you can provide great value in your product or content

it is the hardest to find, but once you do the journey becomes fun and not so much like you're doing work at all.

At times I'll find 2/3 on this list, but it's a struggle compared to 3/3.

When you decide to get into Internet Marketing you come with two personality's. One is a buying personality and the other is a selling personality. If you want to be successful you'll have to switch.

All our lives we thought about ourselves and now we have to think about the customer. I'm not just talking about an educated guess, you have to read their minds.

The money is in the middle. And its like walking around with a blind fold on your face. If you make the switch to a selling personality usually your back has to be up against the wall and you are desperate. That is the hard way.

The smart way is to keep your job and make the change gradually.

#1 Staying focused. It's very easy when you get stuck on a task (For me it's the technical stuff) to "Take a break" and start aimlessly wandering online or even worse, back burner your project and start looking for something "Better"

#2 Targeted Traffic: I don't spend time trying to get my site on Google anymore. No patience for SEO work, I'd much rather pay for advertising, negotiate fair pricing, and let people who are already on the 1st page of Google advertise for me.

Taking action and following it through is hard. This is because there's a lot of information out there and you are constantly getting pulled in different directions. So actually having the mindset to stick to one and see it through is hard.

    I completely agree.

I would say the hardest thing for me is staying focused, and not getting drawn into a new way of making money online...

Rather I need to just focus on what works: creating quality content, building links, building relationships, creating great products, and building a list....

All too often I get drawn into the new and shiny techniques and systems

Staying Focused and doing the activities that bring you money and other people value everyday .

Avoiding info overload which is a widespread disease in the IM niche.

Sticking it through until you make money on an idea rather thinking that the grass is greener on the other side because somebody told they make a boat load of cash

      Creating a reliable team.

Internet Marketing is about constant producing quality products,
sales copies, written content, catchy graphics designs and taking care
      of customers.

You need a team: at least 1 or 2 writers, 1 copy writer, 1 graphics designer,
      1 assistant for customer support.

Finding those people and building a team that costs much less than
you are earning is the key. But that's the hardest part for me.

During the initial newbie phase, one huge issue (which isn't likely to go away anytime soon) is information overload and the attendant confusion over what to do. This results in distraction and a lack of focus, and ultimately you'll end up getting very little done until you can make sense of all the information being thrown at you, and move forward by taking massive action only in one area at a time.

Every newbie has to get through this phase, though some never quite make it. Overcoming it is far easier said than done, but I feel that people who have the wherewithal to acquire a mentor usually are able to overcome this obstacle more quickly and easily in general.
