Hey guys,

Whenever I try to install the blue sense wordpress theme I get the following errors.

Warning: fopen(/home/blankblank/public_html/xyz.org/wp-content/themes/BlueSense/style.css) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /blank/public_html/xyz.org/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4284

Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/blankblank/public_html/xyz.org/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4287

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/blankblank/public_html/xyz.org/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4290

I'm installing from host gator c panel using Fantastico and never had any problems installing previous themes.

And what happens when you do a normal manual theme upload/install via ftp?

Don't know how to do that, always have done it through cpanel. Can you point me to some instructions on how to do it please.

I had this same problem, but after starting so many blogs, I've gotten the hang of it.

All you have to do is get your FTP user name, password and host address, login, and navigate to the following files:

WordPress > wp-content > themes, from there simply upload the file, make sure you don't upload the files plural (as in the files from the actual zip file), just upload either the actual zipped file, or the file with the theme name on it inside the zipped folder, this is important (believe it or not)... Your theme should be up and running now.

        Hope I helped!

P.S. Make sure to actually activate your theme in the admin section of your website!!!

And I've never heard about doing it through cPanel. I heard some people uplaod themes via the wp-admin interface... but never done that either.

If you have a FTP client/software (like Filezilla) and know how to use it - it's easy.

    - download and unzip the theme to your computer
    - upload the unzipped theme folder to ....../wp-content/themes/ directory
    - go to your wp-admin and activate it

P.S. the domain "example.com" has been reserved by ICANN exactly for that: to be used in strings where you don't want to post the real domain name.
Or is xyz.org your real domain??? And parked at godaddy...? <-- you see, it's confusing

Why are you trying to install a theme through cpanel? You'd have to access the ftp for that and it's easier to go into your wp-admin and install the theme from there. The error means a file is out of place by the way, it's looking for a functions folder or file. My guess is that it's been uploaded into the wrong place or not extracted from the theme file.

Well, through the cpanel is where I used to go to find the file manager and upload themes. Although I also recently discovered ftp access/program as well through my cpanel.

      • You may want to avoid that theme though. Has some validation issues if I remember, because I got rid of it awhile back on one of our client's blogs.

If some really good click through rates for Adsense consider/try the VERYPLAINTXT theme, and customize it with your ads all above the fold.

A far easier way, even if you don't want to use it, is to go to yoururl/wp-admin and log in. Upload themes in the appearance->themes area.

I remember a while ago people were complaining that only one file at a time could be uploaded via filemanager... and not folders.
Maybe now even that thing is "smarter"

For me, definitely, the file manager was always the complicated way :p

After my son showed me how ftp works (back around 2000 or so) never used anything else. First I got CuteFTP and later Filezilla.

Try installing the newest version of Wordpress. The version you're using might not be compatible with your template

  • Don't use Fantastico. That's probably the problem. At least 50% of the people I know that used it wound up with problems of one kind or another. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

You can install through cPanel, but FTP is the best and fastest way.

Are you trying to install the whole file and not just the actual theme file that is within the file?

This means you have code mistakes in your code on lines 4284, 4287 and 4290. Find them and repair.
