Yearly Search Results?

Uughhh, I can't find this anywhere so I'd like to ask here;

when doing your niche research; what is a proper yearly search estimate when choosing your market? I'm using keyword discovery and it appears to be a very beneficial tool for this purpose, however if your not sure what your looking for or what is good/bad yearly search results then it kinda defeats the purpose haha. Please let me know any suggestions and thank you ever so much! =)

    Plus, what I don't understand is why when I search for example 'potassium supplements' in the google adwords tool it says 4,400 global results and 2,900 local results (is this not monthly) - then when I search 'potassium supplements' in the keyword discovery it says 44?! Is keyword discovery not yearly totals? I'm quite confused... =/

    Most keyword tools give you monthly searches. Google keyword tool will show you the monthly searches and the local is your country (USA) and global is the rest of the world. I have never found GKT to be 100% reliable, i usually check it against results from other tools as well.

    I would never build a site around 4,400 search results even if it was monthly. You probably have low competition, but you will usually not generate enough traffic to make it worth it. I Don't build niche sites with anything less than 20k searches per month, even that is pretty low unless there it is for a hot product that I am promoting.

    Would be great for a sub page, not the main site.
