Can anybody tell me from experience if Banner Ads are effective in terms of lead generation?

With a little help from Mr G, I've read that banner ads are more for branding, not for revenue or lead generation.

Does this ring true with anybody?

I've been using text ads vs. banner ads on the google content network. The text ads have won hands down, banner ads have been very unsuccessful

Good Banners still pull in tons of targeted traffic.

There are huge banner serving ad networks that produce
enormous amounts of traffic for there clients.
Think of the web host companies - its mainly banner ads.

If you want text only, you can usually format a banner ad
to be text-like advert if you want.

I totally agree that text ads do a whole lot better then banner ads.

People don't like banners and the click through rate will drop for you in both clicks and conversions when you use banners.

Text ads like in PPC do much better.

That is a good point about text ads being better than image banner ads, as they do have a better Click Through Rate. I have done banner ads, and it depends on multiple factors to get good traffic from - banner design, type of site the banner is on, the traffic the site has. But overall, I've seen that you need to have a good budget to spend for banner ads because the sites with high traffic and impressions cost a lot to place your banner on. So lead generation is possible from using banners, if done the right way

Everything depend on your banners. If it is good, then definitely it will generate great traffic. If you think that text ads works better, you can go with Tim_Hawksworth's suggestion of formatting your banner to be text-like

Banner ads on my site rake in the dough... In the IM niche that is.

However, I am not going to shamelessly advertise my site here so
I will not be posting a link to it.

    Best,
    Shane

I tried banner advertising before and banners with graphics didn't work too well, but when I start putting written text on the ad it started to convert better.

The web banner is displayed when a web page that references the banner is loaded into a web browser. This event is known as an "impression". When the viewer clicks on the banner, the viewer is directed to the website advertised in the banner. This event is known as a "click through". In many cases, banners are delivered by a central ad server.i think text ads are more good than banner ads and mainly text ads are easily placed.

I agree that banner Ads do work. They have a special place in getting traffic for a website.

If use in right place and in right format it work good. Though many people do not find it good.

    Thanks & regards

Banner ads DO work for lead generation. The CTR is obviously way lower than text PPC but they still work. The key? Don't use images, simply make your banner ad one big text ad. Just have large red letters with your headline and most importantly...include some blue, underlined text that says 'Click Here'

Don't stress about making it pretty, simple text is all you need.

That will work for you :-)

  • I have had a number of banner ads that performed quite well but text ads, for the most part, definitely produce better and more consistently for me by a huge margin.

    Banners work very well.

    But they *must* grab attention.

A poor banner produces poor results. A great banner produces great results.

Ever notice that most of the banner ads here at WF are all formatted to look like text? Ever wonder why?
