How many Opt-in subscribers confirm their subscription?

I recently started building my first list with aweber. I'm concerned because of the ~110 people I've had opt=in to my list via web form, only 19 have confirmed their subscription. Is this normal?

Your opt-in confirmation rate will depend upon many
    things including...

    1. How desirable your opt-in gift is

    2. How qualified the visitor is

    3. How quickly the confirmation e-mail is sent out
    after they subscribe

    4. How enticing the copy is on your web pages
    and the e-mail they receive.

If you're only getting 19 out of 110 people confirming
then your process must suck in at least one of the
    above areas.

  • That figure seems very low.

I would say mine is well over 90%. As people are opting in for a reason, they make an effort to click the confirmation link.

Your confirmation email may be ending up in a spam folder. It would be worth experimenting opting in to your own list from a few different types of free email accounts to see what happens.

I'd also work on the page where the prospects are reminded to check their email, just to make sure it's compelling them to go back and confirm their email address.

I think the trick is to offer them an especially tastey free gift which they will receive following confirmation. That improves figures enormously.

If you just leave them cold with absolutely no reason to look for your email, the chances are immediately pretty good that they will simply delete it.

I'm getting them to submit the web form optin by offering basically a "Five Critical Tips to Blah Blah Blah" which apparently is compelling enough to get them to submit the form, which I assumed meant it was compelling enough to click the confirmation link. Upon submitting the form, they're redirected to a page on the same site reminding them to click on the confirmation email. This page even reminds that once they click the confirmation, they will get the "Five Critical Tips to Blah BLah BLah" delivered to them immediately.

At least now I know that this rate is really low. I wasn't sure since I've never done a list before.

It sure is low - very low in fact.

You may want to have a look through the email addresses and see how many of them actually look legitimate and how many look fake. It sounds to me like you are probably attracting people who think they will get the free tips on the next page so they just enter a random email address.

Maybe you need to be a little clearer on the actual optin page that the free tips will be delivered to their email address. This way not as many people are going to be bothered entering a fake email address.

Your numbers can certainly be improved.

Another common problem is forgetting about putting clear instructions on the page people see after filling in the opt in box.

In most cases the default page in most autoresponders are not very good.
