Veteran: Take Me On, I Will Work 60 Hours A Week To Make This Work

*EDIT* -- before you read. I am not a money grabber as I may come across. I am just very focused on the money side of things at the moment. I LOVE marketing and the 'internet lifestyle'.

This is my proposition. I have probably about 6-8 months and if I don't see any *passive* profits which I can live on I have no choice but to rethink my life plan.

I am looking for a veteran who is earning a considerable amount of money who can teach me how to start something I can grow, something I can make a living on and potentially something I can live very comfortably with.

I have:

* $1000 investment
* 60 hours a week
* 3 months full time work, then endless if I am earning $1000/month
* good experience with web development and custom applications
* some design skills (nothing spectacular)
* absolute dedication to the right person

I mean this. This is my *last* stab, this is the time when I do nothing but work every single day. I have no social life anyway, so I'm not losing out by doing nothing but work (done that for the last 4 years). However, I am *only* working towards a passive income now. No work for hire.

Any takers? Give me a chance. 1 week, I will do EVERYTHING you say and listen and absorb every piece of advice. I will dedicate my life to this cause. I just need somebody to throw me a bone. Take the $1000 up-front if you want, but I need to eat.

I was thinking maybe split profits 50/50 so I can still live. I will be out of my mums house within the next 12 months so I still am in an opportunity to work for potential profits.

I don't care if I'm making an ass of myself. 1 week, that's all I ask for now.

I wouldn't limit yourself to one last stab, because I was stabbing away the first couple of years like a blind Leslie Van Houten, until I finally said enough of the nonsense, and took Google's advice from their Webmaster Guidelines.

Once I started publishing quality content, and learned how to optimize Wordpress in a way that the search engines couldn't resist, the money started to flow.

I'll PM you now. I don't want to sound rude, I'm still open to communication from other people as well. I am equally as serious about making the right choice this time. That's why I'm very concerned about how much this 'veteran' is earning because I am about to work non-stop for 3 months, 60 hours a week (try me).

This last stab will likely be a series of stabs the idea here though is I am *not* jumping about from idea to idea any more. I need something which simply works, where I can earn a minimum wage and then build up from there.

I can't even express in words how dedicated I am to making this work in the next 6-8 months. But after that, if I work 60 hours a week, 3 months, full time and *still* nothing to show even with guidance from a vet and over 2 years study under my belt..well..it's going to be hard to continue.

BUT if after that amount of time I'm even earning $600-800/month passively..well..it's going to be hard to stop

Don't believe everything you think. It's easy to get brainwashed.

If you've got some money to invest I'd recommend getting paid up front for lead generation in the finance market; You know, insurance, loans, debt management etc. Getting instant traffic via PPC really works well.

I've never paid anyone for their mentoring and advice and I have been able to reach a level that only requires a small amount of 'work' every other day.

It takes a bit of effort and determination for a while in the beginning, what doesn't?

          Damien,

You appear to posses the skills I and many other marketers need. I know of several web/php/wordpress related products that need building that MANY solid marketers I know would pay monthly to have work well ...

As well ... there are php related seo apps that need "add-ons" that you could make and market - to their customer base.

Fill the voids - there are many if you know where to look.

          We should chat ...

You have all the skills you need to do well in Product Creation.

If you're willing to do the work, that will show you how to turn it into results. There are a lot of ways to go. Just take that one and run with it. And no, I have no connection with the program and that's not an affiliate link.

We normally don't allow this sort of thread, simply because they'd take over if we did. Anyone feeling the same way should take Ed's 30-day challenge and prove you're willing to do the work. If you do that, you'll have a solid start, be making some money, and have proof to offer someone who might want to work with you later.

Hi Paul, thank you for not taking it down immediately. I've been hanging around these parts for a good few years and although I've learned a lot I haven't put much to action as I've always had other responsibilities (current projects, temp jobs etc etc).

The 30 day challenge I've seen before but the problem is I'm left with nobody to prove myself to but myself. I need to be accountable to somebody, somebody who can say..no..you didn't make money with this method because of ____, ____, and _____.

30 day challenge seems like any other product. I don't need my hand holding but I do need to speak to somebody who is speaking to me, and not their entire customer base. That's why I'm willing to put up $1000.

        Paul
I ran through the (then) 30-Day Challenge in August(?) 2007.

I gave the lessons about two hours a day, then after it was over, moved on to something else. To be fair, back then I was running a pretty labor-intensive business, so that was all the time I could give it.

Two of my three 30DC sites never made a dime. The third started making a trickle right around the end of the class. For three years this site has been a back-burner trickle-earner.

Fortunately for me, it was built around sound research - Ed teaches this very well.

Last Fall this site hit the top 5 for an unintended larger keyword. At that point it got my attention, and I've been building it out ever since. Today it's my top online money-maker. Thankfully I'm in a position where I can put its earnings back into the site, so it's growing exponentially.

If I'd worked on these three sites full time starting way back then, I have no doubt that this site would be KILLING it today.

        Listen to Paul's advice!

I am (obviously) biased, but if you are looking for passive income you may want to take a look at publishing ebooks on Kindle, Nook, etc.

You create and publish a product, and then there is very little to do.

There are no guarantees, but it's a decision I don't regret making.

          But it's not for everyone...

Good luck to you no matter what avenue you choose...it seems like you know what you want, which is the first step in getting there.

Don't get me wrong, the 'web building' is going fine and I do love programming to the point where I would still opt to do that at times even if I didn't have to.

But, it's work for hire and that is exactly what I'm trying to get away from. No doubt I could earn a passive income building saas applications but it takes a lot more than put it up and they will come.

Okay, I get it. You are willing to trade time for money now BUT you are seeking something with a future residual or passive income. Then, again, back to the web designing, you could offer hosting. I don't know if you do mobile phone apps (I'm not at all a techie) but I've read those are good. Information products.

You really need to brainstorm what things you are interested in that offer the potential for residual or passive income.

Hi Paul, thank you for not taking it down immediately.
Well, that whole "contributing member for more than 3 years" thing had a little to do with it.

As far as being accountable, I believe the Challenge has a members' forum where you can get that kind of interaction. (If I'm not remembering correctly, I hope someone will correct me.)

    Damien,

I admire your post. I think a lot of us can relate to the position you are in. I'll give a dog a bone (don't take that the wrong way).

I am releasing a WSO probably in the next week or 2 and I am more than happy to fire a copy over to you for nothing. It is the sort of thing you are after. A real business that if you put in the time you will make honest money. And this is not complicated and is something absolutely anyone can do and realistically get started in just a few days.

If you can at least get an income coming in then all of sudden your situation becomes less desperate and you can look for better opportunities. If you have 60 hours a week to spend then I don't see how you couldn't make money with the method I am using.

Anyway, you have nothing to lose by checking it out. Shoot me a PM if you like and when I have a draft copy ready I will send it over to you.

    Best of luck.

Thanks, I think I may have read that a while back. I've definitely always had an open ear when I see the name 'Paul Myers'. I'll give it another look.

Although that will add to my knowledge, my main aim is to find somebody who will speak to me, not their customers. In return I'm giving them absolute dedication and of course time spent towards their own goals, full time. Profit splits on an 'experiment' project planned by a 'veteran marketer'.

The idea is, less risk on wasted time the more time I'm willing to commit. I am at a fork in the road and I have 8 months to turn left or right

A lot of us had to put in over 60 hours a week to figure out what works and what doesn't work. I wouldn't say it was wasted time but more of an education.

If you want feedback on what you did then ask. I think that is a much more productive then posting this thread.

    Damien,

I can really feel for you and where you're coming from. Your post was quite honest/sincere and I think I can help you out.

The first week of December we began a test with a couple of our agents to see if we could put together a scalable model for IM. We limited our risk and went at it as more of a side project. We're still nowhere near where we want to be, but in March we were able to bring in around $1,100 and we're over that number already for April...on track to do around $1,800. That's in less than 5 months from the day we started the test. We're now considering going into full production mode as we think we've found a winner.

I don't want you to buy a WSO, pick up another eBook, etc. In fact, I don't want your money either. (You'll need just about the full $1K to get up to $1K/month anyway...and that's if you do all the work yourself) Here is what i WOULD want:

    1. Agree to pay me back for the time I spend coaching you, 1 on 1 at a reasonable rate based on the income you receive AFTER you receive it.
    2. Agreement to do some programming/coding with us on future JV's. (Neither my partner or I are programmers and, at times, have desperately had a need for one.)

Sound reasonable? I'd want to talk with you a bit first and I'm sure you'd want to do the same with me before I spent any time on this but, for whatever reason, I really liked your post. I thought it took guts.

What exactly is it you need a mentor for?

It sounds like you have plenty of skills.

It seems like you've been here enough to get in a fair amount of reading.

This is my proposition. I have probably about 6-8 months and if I don't see any *passive* profits which I can live on I have no choice but to rethink my life plan.
I wonder what would have happened if Edison said "I have 6-8 months to make this light bulb thing work, and if it doesn't I have no choice but to start flipping burgers."

You need to write down some actual goals. There are a bazillion things you can sell or do online. Where do you want to focus? Just figure out what it is you want really.

If everyone had their own personal mentor then everyone would be millionaires.

    Unfortunately, that isn't reality.

If you put in the 60 hours a week testing stuff on your own, instead of waiting for a mentor, I am sure you would find the success you are looking for.

How much work did you put into today trying stuff out.

How many of the successful people on the forum do you think had a mentor when they started?

Get off this forum and get to work figuring out and stop making excuses.

Needing a mentor is a employee mentality. Are you and entrepreneur or an employee?

Terry, I respectfully disagree. Finding a mentor or coach could be one of the smartest business moves someone can make. An experienced mentor could save someone from spending untold time heading in a non-productive direction. Not to mention the value of building a relationship with someone that might provide incredible synergy.

I believe many wanna-be entrepreneurs fail because they think they can figure everything out themselves.

Nice post, Michael, I absolutely agree with you. There's a significant difference between a mentor and a boss...as long as you're looking for a mentor I think that's a smart move.

I've been lucky enough to have some INCREDIBLE mentors in my career up to this point and it's been tremendously helpful to me. (One actually was a boss, but it really didn't seem like it!)

I don't mean to sound rude but for many 60 hours a week is not much. Many day job salaried managers put that in each and every week for many months and years. 80-90 or even 100 hours the first few months or longer a week is not that unusual for the self employed.
You just really have to ask yourself how much of a stab you want to take at it.
Regardless of what you decide to do it is very important that at some point you find a way to leverage your time. As one poster said finding a mentor or like minded individuals is a great way to do this.
