How important are bonuses?

I'm considering whether or not I should offer a bonus along with my English course. the bonus would be a free 40 ebook full of exercises and grammar.

What do you think?

People love free stuff, so a bonus is always welcome and may improve sales.

If it's your own product and you aren't competing with other affiliates offering bonuses it's not that essential, but still a good idea.

You could for example offer it without the bonus on your regular sales page, once people close their browser they get this "special offer" with a small discount and the bonus.

Yes, people love free stuff. That's true. But if your core product is genuine and worth buying - even if you don't offer any bonus it will go good. With some product launches - we can see that they include some bonus offers which have nothing to do with the actual one. It has to be avoided. But since you're adding something that's closely related - that's a good move. A good thing here is - if your bonus is so good - even if you fail to live up to the expectations of the customer, they wont refund it. That's a good trick to keep your buyers. Even I've added a bonus offer with my WSO. I've included it thinking if any of the buyers are experienced with what I'm offering with my product - then the bonus offer will keep them with the purchase.

Your proposed bonus sounds good, to me.

These things are sometimes unpredictable. Bonuses can actually lose sales. That tends to happen when there are too many of them, and/or they're not closely enough related to the product being sold, and/or their alleged/claimed value is perceived as ludicrously high by potential customers who then decide not to buy after all, because they think it looks "scammy" or "hyped up" (this, I strongly suspect, is far more common than many marketers realise).

Split-testing of "bonuses" on sales pages, reveals to those willing to do it rather than guess/assume, interesting findings. Fewer/smaller bonuses will often convert better than more/larger ones.

People intending to add more and more bonuses in an attempt to reduce their refund rates would typically be better off addressing the problems with the product itself and/or the sales process that are causing the refund rate in the first place.

Bonus - yes. If you look at the top IMers promoting a product launch, they all add bonuses to increase conversions and get people to take action.

I have used bonuses to increase my conversion (tested and measured the results).

I'd say go for it. It's always nice to get free stuff out of services and I'm sure the customers will be grateful.

Bonuses should be used with caution, particularly if you are targeting customers for repeat sales. The perceived value should be fractionally of the price of the product being sold, and certainly separate from the sales promotion.

The power of bonuses really is when the product presentation stands on its own, and bonuses are almost an afterthought in clinching the urgency of the sale as being available for a limited time. It is especially effective in competitive markets among other similar products and price ranges.

For example, using this technique for promoting affiliate-competitive products such as Clickbank or Amazon provides branding differentiation and incentivized conversions which show up as a significant reduction in payment page/shopping cart abandonment rates.

Yes, people loves free stuff - it sweetens the pot and is most effective for impulse buyers.

Bonuses can be a double edged sword.

If you give don't give something of real value they can damage your reputation. So even though your main product "rocks" you need to deliver quality bonuses as well or else you are better off not including one. I see far too many times that a marketer will include a whole laundry list of six or eight freebie bonuses that are low quality and of questionable value and serve only to convince you that the main offer must not be worth much.

Another thing to consider with bonuses is to make them complimentary in format. So, for example, if you're selling an eBook, try to include a video or audio as the bonus. This way you appeal to people on multiple levels.

I'm going to use a 4 letter word so apologies to those easily offended - that word is TEST.

Bonuses are as important as your tests indicate they are. Split test your product with and without bonuses - if providing bonus gives you better results then provide them - if not, don't.

If providing bonuses is better - then split test different bonuses, etc.

    best,
