Help. Someone has asked me for a quote for a site wide link on my site.

Some turkey wants to put a link on every page of my website and to quote them for 6months/1 year.

How do you price this? How can you figure out a figure etc?
Or what is commonly charged?

      Peter,

      A few things to ponder...

First, do you actually want the link on your site? Would it be compatible with your site's existing content and visitor profile? Is this a route you'd like to take with your site's monetization?

If no, then that's your answer.

If yes, then decide how much you'd like to get paid. It's not an exact science - obviously factors such as visitor numbers and the niche you're in will influence your quote - but it also depends on how much you really want this to happen. You might think it's not worth worrying about for anything less than several hundred dollars a year, for example. Or you might just be content to have your hosting funded.

      Other points to consider:

Could this be the tip of the iceberg? If you think there might be other potential advertisers for your site, it could be worth your while to investigate a little deeper and get a better understanding of the going advertising rates in the niche. Look at competitor sites that run advertising and find out what rates they charge, for instance. Again, that's if you want to go this route.

Also, remember it's just an informal query at this moment. There's every likelihood that the quote request was made to a number of sites and that you'll never hear from this person/company again.

If you are interested, just throw a number out there and negotiate. I just sold a home page link on one of my niche sites for $150 for a year. Not a lot, but this is just an adsense/amazon site and most traffic actually comes through the inner pages with long tail keywords. I get about 100 visitors a day on that site.

I'd actually LOVE it if say, TheKnot.com rep would email and ask for a site-wide link. They have the $1000 to spend!

If its not a super big/high traffic/pr site then usually I would go with around $15/month and a discount for a year upfront (15-25%)

Be sure to have him pay as a recurring billing so you don't have to remind him every month.

That just answered one of my questions in another post.

It depends on what PR,a Alexa Rank and what type of backlinks you have.
The higher the ranking the bigger the price.

Just make sure you don't quote a poultry amount. Or ask for mere chicken-feed.

It depends on how much traffic your website gets and what its PR is. I'd say anywhere from $10-$50/month, unless you have a megasite, in which case it'd increase exponentially from there.
