PLEASE HELP!!! Social media for a Mortuary

Hello Guys!

I just got hired to manage the social media campaign to a MORTUARY!...

THat's right!! a M O R T U A R Y !

They want to get more clients through Facebook and Twitter.

The challenge: They don't have a blog nor want a blog in their website.

I don't even know where to start!!

I mean...I can't take the approach of tweeting and publishing in the wall of the fan page "articles of interest" to potential clients!

What can I do guys!??

I need your ideas.

Thanks!!

Let's just get this out of the way.

    HAHAHAHAHAA

OK. Well consider the realm of social media, is it really your target audience?
What about, grievance groups.. or similar. Industry sites such as masons that make headstones, funeral homes and the like.

I bet you can really target .orgs with that industry.

I suppose I am just referring to theme relevance and actual traffic.
If you are hell-bent (pun intended) on using the social strata you have to lighten it up and approach it from the "living" and pre-planning side of things.

Highlighting it's normalcy and the concept of "future preparedness".
Twitter, who wants twitters from a mortuary company.. wow tough task my friend. Again, industry people..

People don't like to be reminded of death thus I don't think social media would be very effective for a company like this. Maybe you could come up with some type of catchy yet tasteful video that gets the message across but people also want to share with one another.

Maybe YouTube advertising? This is a great song and it would fit with the "niche" YouTube - Natalie Merchant - Beloved Wife

lol ... social media for a mortuary. What exactly is social about death?
It's not something I would want on my facebook or twitter feed and it's a service that I would seek in my local community on an as-needed basis.

I mean ... who is going to go to Facebook or Twitter to find a mortuary?

You could even do something really out of the ordinary like put together a small video series or a number of posts that actually go through the exact process of a Mortuary. I'm sure most people don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

I remember there used to be a reality TV show a few years ago that followed the lives of a family who owned and ran a funeral home. The show was quite popular at the time.

It's the old car accident thing. People might not go out searching for this type of information but when given the chance to take a look, I think curiosity would get the better of most people.

Everyone wants to have a sticky beak.

    Think out of the box!

    Oh... sorry.

But seriously, do they offer other services? If not, they should - things
like info on living wills, what can happen if there is no living will and the
    person becomes incapacitated, etc.

Then there is the market for prepaid cemetary plots. That one has been
    around for a long time.

This one may be a stretch, but there are people who bury their pets in
pet cemetaries. Your client could offer some info about that.

Here's one... they probably know something about euthanasia. That's a
polarizing subject with people. This is all just information they could offer
people to get their name out there.

Glad that is your client and not mine. Good luck.

I think your clients may have backwards expectations for
    social media.

Wrong media for the market, probably.

Marketing success requires intersection of the correct media,
the appropriate market, and the appealing and timely message.

Your client will be best-served if you level with them about
    these things.

You could make a killing by targeting religious groups.
