OK maybe it's not the best way because there are loads of "WAYS" to skin a cat but I think it's better than just asking. What motivated this post was a PM I received from someone offering me their up and coming WSO for free and if it's good they wanted me to give them a testimonial via a PM, comment on their WSO and do a JV with them. This rubbed me the wrong way because their is nothing in it for me. The only free products I'd be interested in would be real high end stuff. Also, I'm in the middle of leaving Japan for Christmas, closing my offline business for 2008 and rebuilding a bunch of online stuff to get ready for 2009. Wouldn't it be better to contact someone about your first WSO and ask for feedback? This may be a good way to improve your copy/product and open the door to a possible future JV deal. This PM reminded me of cold calling. Did a whole lot of cold calling when I first got into sales and it's the hardest thing in the world to do. One JV deal can put 20k in your pocket in a very short time. But it's not going to happen asking for one in your first contact because you're cold calling. Warm people up, show some interest in them, ask for a little help to try to crack that door open and build those relationships way before you need them. I have people that will promote for me if I ask and they'll do it fast. This was not done via one PM. It started years ago. One JV I did took two years to get. Build relationships before you need them would sum it up I guess. Craig |

Great advice. If you want someone to promote for you, then offering to promote for them first is a good rule of thumb to follow. Especially if it is a well known or very successful internet marketer. If you do not have a list or are not sure how you can help promote one of their products, just ask them. Let them know that you would like to show a sign of good faith and do anything you can to help them out. This should open the door to possibly building a relationship from which you can both benefit from in the future. I guess this is one of the biggest benefits to going to seminars. You can actually meet some people you may want to JV with and build a relationship much much faster. Jon |

Craig, I got what was probably the same JV request by PM too. I quickly skimmed the message, didn't know the sender and didn't have time to look in any detail. Yes, there is a better way. But it requires more work than sending out the same PM to a bunch of people whose reputation you want to leverage. John |

Craig, the best way I have found to get a JV with somebody is to contact them and say 7 simple words. "What can I do to help you?" When you put yourself out there like that and offer people your assistance, no strings attached (that's the key) you'd be surprised what can come of it. People forget the most important thing in marketing, especially with JVs. "What's in it for them?" I've had JV offers without even asking for them. Just ask the people who've offered. |
