Thinking to move to VPS, have questions

I've been thinking to move my hosting to cloud VPS from vps.net

I normally pay less than $15/mo and a decent VPS is min $50/mo so it's more than 3x but I am wondering how fast is the VPS compared to shared hosting?

I only know my way around the Cpanel, do I expect to learn new interface for VPS?
Any other things that I should be aware of when I move from shared to VPS?

It really depends on what you need. I am now using a VPS for running Senuke x without interruption. But its a windows VPS so more expensive.

I have a IT company and we host websites for the sites we design. These sites are managed on our own kinux server.

You will need to first see what your actual recuirements are, i.e. Space, bandwidth etc.
If you go over your bandwidth allowence, will get charged; so i always recommend unemetered bandwidth.

If you have any problem deciding dont hesitate to drop me an email.

      Hi,
I use wiredtree for my VPS. Fully managed with cpanel and WHM. Unless you know anything about running your own server and the company offer fully managed do go for a VPS as it is much like running your own server.

However the VPS I have with wired tree is fully managed and I have no problems. Don't signup from there main website but goto webhostingtalk and you can get a discount.

If you want to you can phone them as that is a another + about them.

Here is the webshostingtalk link and I have nothing to do with wiredtree just a happy customer

        Hmmmm...thanks for this.

I am looking for options to upgrade to VPS, but I don't want to have to deal with running my own server. cPanel and WHM is just fine for me, I prefer it.

My host has me on edge of late...was with a smaller company that I had no problems with for about 5 years...then they were bought out by bigger host and issues have been way too frequent.

They offer VPS, but not like this with WiredTree...

Probably going to have to give them a call.

        Thanks again,

        Ed

I will be moving my authority site over to VPS, it's a wordpress base, with hundreds of pages and still adding more each day. The new hosting need to cater around 1K visits per day and growing and also needs to load fast so I think it's time to move to faster and bigger hosting.

Does windtree help with moving your DB to their hosting?

I was eyeing on vps.net cloud hosting. Anybody with them?

The best server to host a website is VPS because it is cheaper then dedicated server and secure for hosting any website.

Irsan - we're about to offer VPS hosting and I could help migrate your site over no problem (and we'll have a warrior discount). The service is going up on Monday or Tuesday, and our servers run WHM/cPanel. If you're interested I can PM you more details as we don't have the WSO ready for it yet

You will get cpanel with vps and have all the options which you had in cpanel shared account, VPS will provide full access, root control and better performance. but if you have less than 3K visitors a day with light weight code than better stick to shared plan to save money.

I too am in the middle of a migration from shared hosting to a VPS. The cost is much more, but my load-time on shared hosting is terrible. I'm sure it's negatively affecting traffic, page views, and sales.

I went with HostGator VPS. So far they've been very helpful. They are transferring my sites as I write as part of the cost.

I don't know VPS.net but host on a cloud at StormOnDemand.com (a Liquid Web company). Awesome support, fast servers, very good uptime, and a graphical console so you can see CPU usage, load, etc. Highly recommend. I switched from a reseller account at HostGator (whom I also like A LOT) and noticed a nice bump in speed from that environment. I didn't document the stats, so mainly that was based on observation of page load times.

VPS is much faster compared to web host especially in terms of CPU performance. VPS is great for a Wordpress blog or a Forum, which are CPU intensive scripts.

I recommend a VPS at hetzner.de which I have seen benchmarks and they are good. Also, they are very reliable and cheap. As low as €7,90!
