Tents and Tent SideWalls Tips

Hey guys,

My Name is Christopher, I am new to the site here. I heard about this site actually from a former college friend and he said to come check it out.

I am questiong on marketing techniques and such to market Tent SideWalls. I would mainly be marketing to bigger companies such as rental agencys and such.

What are some ways you guys would go about it, whether you would use facebook, emailing, that kind of stuff.

I am open for any suggestions guess I just was looking for a baseline.

Thanks and Look forward to posting here frequently!!
Chris

First I would build a web site. Something like www.tentsidewalls.com

Then start to build a mailing list (email list). First step is to just create aweber account and put signup form there.

Then do some SEO. Basic stuff.

    Then start presence on Facebook.

Then build an ebook and start to sell it on your site and amazon to establish yourself as authority. Also make the book available as physical copy.

Then promote the hell out of that book all the time building you mailing list.

Are we talking about camping tents or the type used to provide shelter at events?

HPC- What if the site has been established and my goal was to increase the amount of people that will receive our promotional emails.

The company has mainly been orders through the phone and they have switched over to the "new ways" of internet. My goal is to get as many people as possible to sign up for the newsletter.

John- The Tents are to cover events.

        Okay...

As I see it, you have two different directions to approach this.

The first direction is head-on, looking for relationships with the companies that rent gear for these events. A newsletter is a good start. Now you need to get in touch with people who might want your newsletter.

Rather than Facebook, you might want to investigate LinkedIn, a social networking site oriented toward professionals. Establish a presence, start building a network, and participate. In particular, look for opportunities to be of service to your target audience, such as answering questions about events in the q-and-a section. Make referrals when you can. Be one of the good guys.

You might also explore a version of article marketing where you provide content for the newsletters of industry and trade associations for the folks who rent event gear, caterers, whomever. As a credit for your content, called a resource box or author bio, you can add your web address and a small plug for your newsletter.

The other direction is via the event planners, etc. who put on the events. If they start asking their rental agencies about your sidewalls, the agencies will hunt you down.

LinkedIn can help you here, too. So will participating in trade shows, and the kind of article marketing I mentioned above.

        I hope this helps...

          John,

Thank you for your detailed post. Right now we have a website and are an established company. My goal is to increase the amount of traffic to the website, and get as many people as possible to sign up for our newsletter. I guess thats the direction I am heading.

          Thanks,

          Chris

            Chris,

The above posts have some great recommendations.

Contact both of these organizations below and ask about their mailing lists.

Trade Show Exhibitors Association - Trade show exhibitors association
Exhibit Designers + Producers Association - Exhibit designers+Producers association

We used to use KD Kanopy so I know exactly what you are promoting and the market.

You also might want to consider running some Facebook ads targeting the keyword "trade show" and others that are relevant. Ads on the Google Display Network are super cheap too. Think about something cool and unique that you guys could give away for free, like a little printed sample, key chain, led light, etc. etc. Anything to get people to opt in to your email list.

Hope this helps some. Good luck!

Paul- What would I be looking for with those mailing lists.

Would they just hand them over?

      Chris,

The biggest thing is to make contact and let them know what your company is trying to do. Then ask about mailing lists, contacts, etc. that could help in your marketing.

Also, ask them what the largest trade shows are. Probably most of the big Vegas trade shows but you should think about attending those and talking to the vendors. I think there are some big "adult" trade shows in Vegas that might be fun to attend.........I'M KIDDING

But seriously, start from those organizations I listed and work your way down. I think the biggest thing would be trying to attend trade shows like Comic Con, Shot Show, Icast, etc.

Hire someone to do PPC to drive traffic.

Do you have a proven sales funnel once you get visitors to your site? Do you know what action you want them to take when they get there? Should they call a number, sign up for something, etc.

Do you know how your current traffic is converting?

Since this is a real company I'm assuming you have a real budget for advertising. I would use that budget to drive traffic with PPC, optimize my site and sales funnel, etc.
