How do you input an affiliate link into an ebook??

Hey Warriors,
I am new here to the IM arena and I am writing an e-book and I want to put some affiliate links in there, but how would I go about doing that if I am writing it with Word? I understand the logic behind it but how do you go about making the links active? I only know how to input them into an HTML format and get them to work but what about Word? Ant help would be appreciated.

Reading the Word Help files should help...

Are you saying in your Word copy there isn't a globe with a chain link up there among the tools...?

(rant: this is NOT a technical support forum for lazy people that don't read the Help files of their software...)

Glad to see you're taking action on this method!!!

I could write out the answer to your question, but this explains it just as well.

    Good luck!

      Simple.

      1. Highlight the word or URL you want to make active.
      2. Go to "Insert" on your Word Menu
      3. Choose "Hyperlink".
      4. A window will open for you to enter the URL.
      5. Click Ok.
      6. Done.

Now, the next thing is getting it into an Ebook. What format are you talking about? Are you converting it to a PDF? Some PDF programs won't create these active links. You might have to do them manually when you convert the Word doc to pdf.

It all depends on the tools you're using.

As far as the affiliate link, I would not put the affiliate link in the book for several reasons. 1) the seller could shut down the product, 2) he could change the URL or switch to another affiliate network which would require a different affiliate ID.

Instead, create a folder on your server and name it something like: Product Recommends. Inside that folder, put a web page containing the affiliate link. (You need a special script that will automatically redirect to the affiliate page - sorry, I don't have it.) Use this page URL for the link you put in the book. Then, if for some reason the product shuts down or the URL changes, you can make the change in that file. This means that you can switch to a different product in the same niche, if necessary and not lose the prospects who click the links in the book.

      I hope this makes sense.

Simple, make your book in Word. Use SAVE AS PDF option. It is small plugin you can find on internet. Just search for it.

  • I use CutePDF Writer. It works sort of like a plug-in. I create my document in Word, then instead of 'Save', I 'Print' with the CutePDF option and it saves it as a PDF file. I know it sounds weird, but it's actually very easy.

CutePDF - Create PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Edit PDF easily;.

Make sure you download the Ghostscript Convertor with it, as well, because it needs that to work.

Both links are on the left of the page I alluded to.

You can use OpenOffice.org, it's free, and has an export to PDF option.

        Hi jteatom,

Once you know the technical aspects of creating the hyperlinks, the next most important factor when putting hyperlinks in ebooks is to NOT use the direct affiliate link (which can be changed by the vendor in the future) but instead to cloak the link via a domain that YOU control, so that in future you can change the destination url in all of your ebooks with one adjustment, if you need to.

Sometimes when you use a pdf print file, it doesn't always keep the links. You actually need to save as a pdf, especially if you plan to upload the pdf to any doc sharing sites like scribd.
