Do you think this would benefit marketers/searchers?

Hello,

I have an article submission site that is pretty much the same as any of the other sites that we all place articles to.

What I am thinking about doing is making something different on it, first to generate income, 2nd, to benefit the author of the articles, and 3rd to benefit the searcher ( who ever finds the article via SERPS )

A few ideas I have come up with are to charge a small monthly fee to allow 1-2 self serving links in the body of the article. These would have to be unique and also something of quality. I would need to think of a way to moderate this but it's one of my ideas.

The 2nd is to allow authors to post a youtube video in the center of the article. This would also be moderated and have to be relevant to the topic in the article. Also, for a small fee. Maybe monthly or maybe per article.

These would both have to be done manually so that the site wouldn't become spammy but I want to try and take the site to a level that is valuable to everyone that would come across it ( authors as well as people looking for info ) as well as making it worth my time to do the legwork.

The site is currently ranked in alexa under 150,000 and a pr3 now.

Your thoughts?

    Hi Bryan,

Obviously, you have your own plans for your directory and it's entirely your business how you want to proceed; but there's another potential user group you didn't mention - webmasters and ezine publishers looking for content.

Speaking as someone who's published articles from directories (and gone on to commission the authors for further work), I'd be very reluctant to use an article with brazen links in the body of the text. And the likelihood that a YouTube video within the article would be appropriate for republication, is, again from my point of view, remote.

Of course, it could be that syndication isn't a priority for the majority of your authors; in which case, I expect they'd welcome your initiatives.

Frank, that's a very good point. I actually didn't think of it from that end. That's what I'm trying to wrap my head around now.

My priorities are going to be as follows : ( in this order )

#1 provide a great user experience to all parties ( I'm glad you brought up webmasters. ) and only make that experience better.

    #2 Generate positive cash flow

I believe that if I make a great user experience for all parties involved, the site will continue to grow and in turn generate revenue.

Now the ?, how to generate revenue without turning into a spammy site. lol
