How long could it take to build an authority site? *Factors details inside* ;)

Hello Warriors,

So, let's say you wanted to build an authority site on.. let's see.. "money". I'm not saying make money online, but money... finance... wealth. Let's consider a site like WebProNews, but specifically focussed on the "money" market/niche.

How many articles per day? How many days? How much in monthly earnings? How many RSS readers? --- would constitute to it being called an authority site (in your opinion)?

How long could it take you, if you were trying to do it all alone, spending at least 4 hours a day on the site? Oh and yes, let's consider you know a good deal about the niche, or at least have 500 article ideas while starting out. Of course, just assume that you have a good WordPress theme you're convinced would fit the niche (and/or the site) well. You know how to do SEO too...

I think you are missing part of the puzzle. To me, a true authority site is one that not only has a lot of information on a specific topic - but is recognized by others as being an "authority". Authority sites grow as they gain respect and recognition by visitors.

I can put up a thousand pages on a site - might be a large site but not necessarily an authority site.

I've noticed in IM some equate large site to authority site - different view.

My bad there, Kay. I guess I didn't articulate that.

I meant a site that has great content, connects with its readers and aims at building a community-feel on the site. Thanks

If you have really great content, that is useful and unique, it can happen in 2-3 months, especially if you do guest posts on other people's blogs, and post every day or at least 4-5 times a week.

You can also fasten up the process by providing great value for other sites in the form of comments and forum discussions.

This would be to generate backlinks and eyeballs on sig links in forums, right?

Yes, but of course without saying "Hey click on my link to visit my website".

If you provide value, they will want to check out your site.

Agreed. The trick is in the tsunami (of targeted traffic) though! How much of it can (and how) you bring in 3 months?

You seem to have missed Kay's point. You don't 'build an authority site'. You build a site other people recognize as an authority. The key word here is other people.

You can build a large site fairly quickly, especially if you also post links (with commentary) to other peoples' content. By seeming to 'approve' them by linking out, and giving them your blessing, it gives you an aura of authority.

In my opinion, though, any site isn't an "authority site" until other people start linking to it as an authority. In other words, reversing the situation in the above paragraph, where people link to and recommend your content.

When that happens, you build authority. Not by picking a theme or making 500 posts. Those can make it easier to gain authority, but it takes other people to establish it.

Build an authority site one authority post at a time. You don't need many authority posts to build up a site people consider authoritative.

An excellent example is Viral Marketing : ViperChill. This blog built up a massive audience very quickly. The posts are fantastic. Moreover, he posts maybe 1 to 4 times per month.

An authority site as one poster points out is how others "view" your site. One way to do this is to create a blog ring around your site of say 6 - 7 other sites. Each site would have different yet complementary keyword phrases that are associated with your main site. For example, let's say the main site is about getting rid of acne, your other sites that "point" to your main site could be covering topics based on "makeup"
"skin detox" "skin cleansing" etc. Use Google's wonder wheel to help you determine what other LSI keyword terms to use. Your main site can become an authority site with a minimum of about 30 articles and as short as 90 days. It all depends on how quickly and strongly you can build your blog ring.

You create the blog ring to get backlinks to your main site? I think Google notices somehow if you are the owner of these sites, and it doesn't like it.

If there's another reason for it, please tell me

Is there an example blog ring of sites you could show us? Thanks

You could also tie it in to a "like page" formerly fan page on facebook and increase your list by having an opt in to read an ebook.
Doing video or audio interviews with other known heavy hitters helps with the trust factor.
