Newbie needs help finding images

I starting to put up product review sites for physical products like TV's, tools, etc. However, I'm having a tough time finding images for specific products. I don't want to violate copyright laws, but I really need some photos of specific products. Anyone have any ideas where I can get free images without risking ending up in court? Thanks!

I can't help you with photos, but you may swipe as many professional graphics (buttons, badges and banners) as you like from my website.

I am a graphic designer and I was recently inspired by Seth Godin's "Poke The Box." So, I am giving away as many free professional graphics as I can for the next year or so to see what happens. Its my own personal social experiment. I'm calling it the Great Graphic Give.

my portfolio site is located at: christinevogensen [dot] com

    Best of luck to you!

    Mark,
Have you tried looking up commercial usage creative commons licensed images on Flikr?

You can click the advanced search and at the bottom check the boxes.

You can also look for creative commons images with Google Images...but you should still double check those to make sure they are indeed appropriate for commercial usage.

    All the best,
    Jack Duncan

You could try fotosearch.com Stock Photo Images. However, you would have to pay for these.

However, try contacting the company that you want images of, perhaps they will let you have the images for free, after all you are selling and promoting their product!

I am a pro photographer... I don't have any pictures of products but I do have a stock WSO below if you are interested. I am actually thinking about the idea of having people request 'niche shoots' where I could shoot a concept or products and even request specific type of model for the shoot.

That's actually not a bad business idea IMHO.

I know some people (sort of) already do things like that (licensing their photo's) I'm not sure I have seen it approached on request.

How much do you think you would charge for that?
I'm thinking of logistics like travel..etc

No I'm not thinking of competing, but rather using a service like that.

I think so too and I'm working some ideas in that direction.

The costs would not be very great as most would probably take place in studio which I own. The costs would be talent fees (model) and any props. Location shoots would have more costs.

It could even be a membership site or if x number of people request a certain stock shoot for niche or whatever I would do it.

Hey Steven, I am going to check out your product, I have the same problems finding legal images to use for my products.

  • I'm not a lawyer, but I would think if you are reviewing a product you could use a pic of it. Heck, that's free advertising for them. Does anyone know if a vendor like Amazon has to pay a fee to use a pic of an item they sell?

hi Moreno here, why not starting by searching google (and yahoo, aol etc.) for free images about xxxxx ? then google images has a lot of them ,Flickr as tons of images ,but i ask myself if you want images of tv and that stuff why not going to official site ( like sony , lg etc.) and pick your images out of them ? after all you make free ads for them i don't think they would complain!
