Creating permanent redirect for blogger blog

Dear People,

I am using a custom domain with blogger for my blog. I need help in creating a permanent redirect (301). In blogger I configured to redirect the 'non-www' to 'www' (hope it creates a 302 redirect).

In the Google webmaster, in settings, I set the custom domain to 'www' version. Hope it creates a search engine friendly redirection for google. But, it is not the only search engine out there.

I need a permanent redirect 301 for all search engines. Hope there is no way to use htaccess with blogger hosting. Kindly let me know if I could solve this problem.

I am quite new to all these things. Please write in a simple language.

This seems to be a step by step guide to do this:

Hi Ken, Thanks for the reply. Hope I was mis understood. I don't want to shift my blogger blog to wordpress. I shall remain in blogger. I just wanted to create a permanent redirect of non-www version of my domain to www version. I would like to know if there is any way of doing it, staying with the blogger hosting. Kindly do help!

It seems you could simply use the www version of your custom domain
in step 3 rather than using a different domain name as the instructions
    are originally intended.

    May be worth a try.

      Dear Ken,

I don't understand what you mean as step 3. Is that entering the custom domain in the blogger. If so, I have already entered the www version only. But still, if I check the redirect status of my domain without www, it shows that it has been redirected by 302 (temporary redirect) which is not search engine friendly.

    Jeyaprakash,

Sorry for asking, but did you go to the link and read it?

This has you using a hosting account and redirecting using
htaccess. You would redirect the non-www to www.

Step 3 explains the process but the example is for two completely
    different domains.

All I am suggesting is you use it for what you need - non-www and
www domains even if the name is the same.

    Hope that clarifies.

      Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. Now I remember. I have read your posts before shifting to a custom domain. Ha ha.. That created interest in me to make a shift.

I read the link you gave. The third step speaks of domain parking. I thought that is something to do with blogger to wordpress shifting as I understood parking as a redirect to a temporary page.

I got my domain from znetindia. In their DNS management area, link like this regarding parking or redirect is not there. It seems to be complicated for a fresher like me. A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, NS, TXT, SRV and SOA records are there.

I read this page of yours also

      blogbloke.com/custom-domain-blogger-dns-seo-godaddy/

I made some changes in CNAME and A records as mentioned in the blogger while setting up my custom domain. Now, for a permanent redirect, should I do anything with these records. I am not still able to make out.

That is not my site, not my page.

I would not think those two actions would be in the DNS
        management part.

Since he was referencing working from Fantastico, since
it's all about blogs, then he could be talking about using
those functions from your hosting account. Although you
can also redirect or park from your registrar.

I use namecheap and host gator. So it's impossible for me
to know how your registrar has things set up.

Suggest you look around znetindia as it very well may not
be in your DNS management section.

Thanks for the post. Is that a permanent redirect? Now, both my non-www and www version take me to the same site. But, it is a 302 redirect.

Is that possible to create a permanent redirect with 301 code using java script? Kindly let me know...
