Hi - Probably not. But if gigbucks is a registered trademark then it will only be a matter of time before you get a 'desist' notice. Best to rethink, I think... regards Allen

I cannot give a legal advice about your question but why don't you find a unique name? For example SAbucks. I am sure you can find a good one if you brainstorm a bit.

I think you can come up with a much catchier name than gigbucks for the clone site in SA, remember your audience, there are some really cool names for the same idea that would work much better for you.

The best place to get legal advice is from a lawyer, not a forum like this one. Check with a qualified lawyer, one who deals with copyright and trademarks (intellectual property), near you. You expose yourself to a lot of potential risk without getting legal advice on matters like this.

This is where you are wrong. Internet Service Provider (ISP) - ADSL - Email Services - Web Hosting - Gmail does not belong to google.com and it is not a nice thing to say that somebody is idiotic.

In your example you mentioned Gmail.co.za.

Gardale Solutions has owned the GMail.co.za domain name since 2003, well before Google decided to launch its Gmail service.

In your case you KNOWINGLY want to register a domain that someone has built a business around to clone it.

That would be an idiotic action IMHO.

Thanks everybody that contributed to this thread. Now I know I need to be creative and get a new name. I have gotten the answer that any lawyer could have told me here.
