Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing an Email Database for marketing purposes.

Is this a legal way at building up a client list?

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Regards,
Robbie

Hi - Careful! If I were you I'd 'rent' an optin list and get someone else to do the mailing for you...regards Allen

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the input.

The reason i came here was to find out how to go about it the correct, legal and ethical way.

What did you mean by jeopardizing my account by using an auto responder?

I have no yet purchased any DB's, but just wanted to know that should i, that i know the 'ins and outs' of what is allowed and what is not allowed.

How would i go about 'renting' an opt in list?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,
    Robbie

    Hi Maoxseo,

I am about to create a Aweber account, but how is that going to help me with a rented optin list?

As far as i know, Aweber is just an email marketing tool, but doesnt actually provide you with email addresses to send too, but rather send to a list of email addresses you have build up.

    Am i missing something?

One of the larger segments of IM is providing services and tools for building your own list. The autoresponder companies generally have policies in place the prevent you from using any list that contains email addresses that have not specifically, directly requested to receive information from you. Therefore, renting a list is not the best way to go. It's better to build your own high-quality list. Search around this forum for list building. You'll find quite a lot of information.

Thanks for the heads up.. i do beileve is building a quality list, but if using rented list as another method of list building, why not just use it along with all the other methods?

Because, as I said before, many of the autoresponder companies will not allow you to use a list of email addresses that you rent.

Now, I suppose if you wanted to go to all the effort of individually mailing all those people whose names you rented to ask if they'd subscribe to your list, that would be your choice. But it sure sounds like a lot of needless work to me. (Also, I'm not entirely sure it's ethical to rent a list and ask them to subscribe to your list. Just build your own. It'll be much better quality anyway.)
