Not to sound like a TWITTER SNIPE or anything BUT...

We have all been given these wonderful little places to the left to put links to facebook, TWITTER, skype, youtube, etc and yet I still see a lot of warriors including some long time respected residents putting "Find me on twitter" or "twitter me" in their Signature files.

I was under the impression this is not allowed in the signature, unless of course you owned twitter which I don't think I know the warrior who owns twitter so if that is you I apologize.

If this rule has changed then I apologize - but if not it is showing everyone it is "ok" to put sites you don't own in the sigi file.

Where does the madness end?

<--------------------see? put your stuff over here.

"You can only use domain names that you own" has been drilled into my thick skull. This means I could not point to a free WP blog or Blogger blog or squidoo or hub page- why would twitter be any different?

Ok, going back to packing cause I'm moving today. But don't think I won't be back to see the consenses on this.

Interesting question. If we're not allowed to, I'll remove mine. Are we truly not supposed to link to a free blogspot blog?

Not that I link to one, but that doesn't seem to me to be the intention of the rule; it seems to be that you are not supposed to put affiliate links in your signature, but if you put the content on your blogspot blog, I would think that's okay.

True...but some people sell stuff at twitter...or at least bring attention to their products/services.

    Hmmm.

    Tough one.

Seems it could be a "per instance" decision, but I think they want to stay away from that.

Perhaps Allen will have to jump in on this one.

Twitter has become an almost untouchable subject, if you get what I mean...because everyone seems to like it. So it's put on a different pedestal.

    It's the 'in thing'.

      LOL, someone picked number 3.

I'm still waiting for an answer on this question. And no, I don't have anything better to do (right now.)

I believe that only applies to aff links.

I've never read anything about linking to free hosted sites like Blogger, Facebook, or Twitter being against the rules.

Probably better to use the icons though, as to clean up the sig for other things in my opinion.

I remember something a few months back talking about the free sites - and I had even had a hub page in my sigi at the time. I was told that was a big NO NO.

Only sites that you own, and you can promote your WSO.

One of the forum features through your profile is the ability to add your Twitter username if you have one. It even displays recent posts/tweets or whatever you call them

I'd never really thought about it that way, but you do have a point. I removed it from my sig.

(I think) Mine is on the left so I wouldn't bother putting it in my sig.

I don't have a problem with the twitter links in the signature... even with the icon on the left. I think it is equivalent to linking to a WSO even though not all folks are using twitter as a promo tool. As long as it isn't an affiliate link, it shouldn't really matter.

I would have to agree with you Jill. It's clearly stated no site links unless you own them in signatures. Me personally, i'll be following the rules.

Ok. Just for the sake of it, how do we put twitter in the box to the left!

Well, heck. Now you all have got me confused too. I will stick with only adding my own sites to my sig.

Jill, draw close to learn a secret. Didn't you know that those with twitter in their signature owned it

And no I don't see the point as it is on the left, and I forget to follow people anyway :p
