What do you do when you have to step back into reality?

This long weekend has provided me the opportunity to learn about IM more than ever before, and I am so excited to get things moving. The problem is, that I can't do this everyday for the amount of time that I hope.

You see, as a highschool student, I have things that need to be done. Projects, homework, etc. Especially now that AP exams are coming in a few weeks - I don't know how I can stay on top of my online ventures. Not to mention that on top of my blog and niche website (i own 6 sites) I also have a new client who's site I have to design and set up.

What do I do? D; There just arent' enough hours in the day...

Stay out of here and get your work done.

Since you have entered into business with real businesses, then
you need to take care of them. Of course school is important, as
    you know.

Be organized and just get it done.

    Stop taking on new clients.

Thanks, I will. And I only do client work when the find me through word of mouth. I don't really broadcast my services. In this case, its a friend of a friend.

    Hey Nicole,

As being a highschool student myself I also find it kind of hard to juggle IM and school so I like to keep to a schedule. It helps a lot, so just come up with a daily schedule and stick to it. But nonetheless school IS important so it should come before anything.

Keep working when you have free time...then take some of the money from the projects you do for clients and look more towards setting up passive income streams for yourself.

Anything that makes you money without you having to put in hours...

Products are the best way to accomplish this...although having a blog that makes you some affiliate and adsense income counts too...same with having an email list you can use to promote affiliate offers.

When I say products...don't just think "ebooks"....

There are tons of other products you can create...

It looks like you have some nice design and coding skills...have you thought of creating WordPress themes for resale?

You could spend some of your free time creating a WordPress theme and then selling it on ThemeForest - Premium WordPress Themes and Web Templates - ThemeForest.

There are designers over there who do very well.

ThemeForest will pay you 50-70% based on your sales volume.

There are designers there with sales in the thousands....with each theme selling going for $30-$40 each.

GraphicRiver offers the same type of marketplace, but for graphic design projects.

            Good luck to you...

Agreed! Time management is the key! I'm just curious how much time each of you currently put into IM.

And Nicole: no more! You've got quite enough on your plate already!

Outsource everything that is not related to design and programming (if you are good at that as well). Writing and SEO are very time consuming and you should focus only on the tasks you are better at or enjoy more doing

In the warrios for hire section you will find plenty of people offering these services. I could reccommend some that i have worked with. If you want, send me a private message.

Passive income is the way to go...especially at your age.

If you are successful in setting up some passive income streams, you can concentrate on SCHOOL as the systems you put in place make money for you.

How nice would it be to be able to be a full-time college student and have money rolling in as you sit in class and get your education...?

That's one of the main reasons I got into internet marketing. I can earn money whilst I go to school and most of the sales I do is while I'm at school! I'm nearly finished saving up for tuition for college.

It certainly is awesome and it feels great, my other school friends all work at McDonald's or Burger king making 7$/hr.

Some good answers here -- another thing you could do is change the mindset shown by your choice of thread title.

We've all heard people (at least in the U.S. where I live) who say some variant of "Oh, well, back to reality now." Usually used when they're doing something they greatly enjoy, and it's time to go back to their jobs or other unpleasant tasks.

This implies that anything you do that's fun is somehow unreal, and that the default mode for our lives ("reality") consists of the things we don't want to do. I think it's a good idea to avoid using those kind of phrases, and start considering in your mind the fun times to be AT LEAST as "real" as the things you don't like doing.

I think the words and concepts we use, both inside our heads and out loud, are important and help shape what happens to us. Just my .02.

    Make time. :-) Here's what I mean.

If you invest just one hour each day working on “Internet Marketing” (or whatever you call it) you will accumulate ... Nine 40-hour weeks ... Over the course of a year.

    So get working.

Wow, gotta admire the work ethic of someone so young. I'm a little jealous lol. I just want to echo what others have said, make time. Even if it's just a little time, make it a habit every day.

I must admit I am impressed. In high school and working on your IM career.

Most kids your age are texting, video gaming and out with friends. I hope that my children grow up to be just like you!

When I started in IM - I had a full time job (45+hrs per week), my kids are 3, 5 and 11, and the normal duties of a mother and wife that kept me very busy.

I was only able to spend a few hours per day on my business. I got up a 4am every morning to get two peaceful hours of work time.

If you look at your schedule I bet you can find ONE hour per day to dedicate and you will be amazed at what that one hour will do for you in the long run.

As suggested before outsourcing is always a great way to boost your profits and save time.

Stop listening to politicians, the media and teachers' unions! This 'net generation (under 20-25) is incredible! A fifth grader approached me about IM yesterday after mass, then came back with her principal about giving an hour presentation to her class about IM!

The "real" reality is no matter when you start working online - you have other responsibilities in real life.

There are people here working full-time, part-time, taking care of families, supporting children - and they make IM part of their everyday life. I think very few new IMers have the luxury of devoting all their time to their new online biz.

A huge advantage some (not all) young marketers have is that parents are still paying for their basic living expenses. It's a great chance to start online using what time you have available - without worries about whether you will eat next week or not.

      Hi there

Focus on school first of all.

Outsource the things that takes a long time for you to do. And do the things that you are good at and enjoy doing.

Oh yea... this forum is very addicting as well... so you know what you should do.

    Hi.

Well, first you should hire an assistant or look for an intern who's passionate about it.
Then plan your hours carefully, learn to use a schedule, a calendar.
Buy an agenda and note down everything you have to do.

I'm in my last year of college and I have finals, I have a dissertation thesis, I have work and I manage to do all of them.
So it is possible. Just learn how to be EXTREMELY organized.

    Good luck!

    Roxana

  • Just manage your time properly. You will probably find that 99% of people on this forum have a normal day job (me included), but they all carefully set aside a few hours a day to try and build their business. The great thing you have now is the knowledge that this internet marketing world exists. I don't know about you, but I get out of bed with a spring in my step each day because I know if I keep building my business slowly, hopefully a year from now I will be doing this full time. Just keep at it a little bit each day and you will get there.
