Hello everybody...

my noob problem:

information overload!

I am pretty agile in learning and try to avoid the rumored "shiny object obsession", but the stance of a seasonesd warrior (whom i can't pm as of now) has made me think again though. He shared that he occasionally reads 2-3 newsletter/blogs to keep up with what is going on and takes heed to what friends in the industry share with him. THAT'S ALL.

Well i do not have any friends in the industry yet and it seems to be not easy at all for me to find the right balance between curious learning and procrastinating the implementation of what is at hand!

I mean if i would not be open minded at all, i would not have found this awesome forum and a lot of ideas and opportunities on the net for a start.

Am currently in the phase to consolidate my info sources. I have discovered about 50 good and seemingly respected blogs/forums etc. since the beginning 2011 and i wonder how to keep up with it. There is so much to take in!

Could you share which blogs/sites/sources you value over all other?! How do you manage and balance all the information? All these different areas?

Do you deem it best for a beginner to first concentrate on one single field, e.g. affiliate marketing or copywriting etc.? Or is it worth a try to learn and mix two or even three areas of expertise for greater impact?

Which would be your advice on what to tackle first, what to postpone...
I know this boils very much down to your character and inclination - most importantly to your strategy. So let me ask you personally - how did you achieve mastery over this.

Some serious, thoughtful help would be so much appreciated indeed!

Hey, I'm pretty new to IM as well. However, I have a good friend who makes lots of money doing IM. While talking to him, I felt that same Info. overload. Then I started reading on this forum, which lead into more confusion. After finally getting all of the answers I could out of a trusted friend. I decided that affiliate marketing was a good way to start and that I didn't want to dive in further until I understood some of the IM basics. Affiliate marketing provides a good view on how SEs work, and people work for that matter. Amazon is very easy, but you can also check out click bank and commission junction. Once I profit enough to buy my self a new computer and save a little, I'll move on to bigger ventures. As for blogs...That's all good stuff, & I keep up with a couple that help me...but this forum really has a great amount of info, if you can see passed all of the liars and self promoters. If I were you, I would continue on this forum, book mark your blogs and visit them as you wish. If you don't feel like following a blog that's been bookmarked for a few weeks, review it and then decide what you want to follow.

You're in the right place. Just don't stress it too much. It's good to make your own way, because only you can do whats best for you.

This. Right now I'm focusing on one avenue. Video Creation services. I've been doing it for nearly a year and a half. My goal is to expand into every area of my niche and learn as much about it as possible. Everything I read and encounter from how to manage a list, to seo tips, to wordpress to graphics, to tips on JV and affiliate marketing, I'm adapting to my business.

I read somewhere get one website to earn $1000 a month. So take everything you learn and apply it to that one goal.

Write out what you want to do. I started off with one goal. Earn $300 a month for 6 months creating video services. Then I broke down what I needed to do to reach that goal. 1. Create product. 2. Create website. 3. Get clients. 4. develop my client process and delivery system. 5. Implement. Then I researched what I needed to learn to do each thing that would help me reach that goal. Needless to say I hit my goal.

And that's where all the information from your information overload comes in. Then you go down the list and apply the info to create a marketing plan and to create the product/services you need to earn that goal. All things serve the goal or they are useless. When you read something, you ask yourself, will this help me in my current goal? If so, you bookmark it, or PDF it or google docs copy it and keep going down your list. If not, dismiss it.

Once you have a basic system set up, any new information must be used to make it easier to complete your processes, if not...toss it.

Definitely. I have to decide where my passion is and filter according to that goal. Sounds easy, but i am not sure if i will find my niche soon.

Building minisites for adsense may be something to make a few bucks in the beginning and to learn on the way. But it is not really my vision of adding to the greater good of humanity.

Well, building the next big thing as a IM guru and market it to the next gen noobs is nothing i dream about either.

There is no secret. ZOMG!?!? Yep, that's it. Pick ONE method, FOCUS 100%, and DO IT.

If you can make 1 sale there is no reason you can't make 10 and if you can make 10 there is no reason you can't make 100...etc etc etc.

Haha, actually my WSO is about one method for making money online out of the tons of ways I've tried. This is going to sound crazy to some but just because you find a way to make money online that works doesn't take away the temptation to try new things.

One great thing about IM< there is no right/wrong way to make money as long as your ethical with it! (but really, focus on ONE method at a time)

I definitely concur with your statement above, James. It's the classic "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" syndrome that afflicts even seasoned marketers. We're always trying to improve and get better at what we do, but there's a pretty fine line between improving and taking on too many things simultaneously.

However, for newbies, there's no doubt that they need to focus on just one thing at a time until they get good at it. If even seasoned marketers have issues with doing too many things at one time, I think it's pretty safe to say that newbies should avoid this completely!

Pick one method and stick with it.

For me, when I first started making money, that meant deciding to focus on one talent: writing.

Then I looked at ways to make money writing: product creation, building sites, selling articles to people, etc.

I picked a method with fast returns -- writing articles for other people -- and stuck with it.

I only read WF when I needed to learn something specific (how to set up Paypal, how to set up my portfolio site, etc).

I set income targets -- they can be low, like $100 per month! -- and worked hard until I met them. Then, I chose another target and worked to meet it, continuing to focus on working more than reading sources.

You can apply this "template" to other methods of making money, too. Pick a skill or resource you want to use, a specific method of making money, and focus on it while consulting WF and other sources only when you need to know something.

When you're absolutely new and don't even know what methods of making money are out there, it can be a "1 hour learning to 1 hour action" ratio, the lowest there is. Once you've already picked a method (and there are lots of tips, hints, methods, and even blueprints available right here for free), reduce that to 1 hour learning and 2 hours action, then 1 hour learning and 5 hours action.

Challenge yourself to do more and more and read less and less until you're succeeding.

I had the same issue when I found this forum. There is info everywhere and tons of it! The only real tip I have is to pick something, read about it, and put it to work. For every hour you spend reading and learning, take an hour and put what you learned to work. If you spent all your time learning, nothing will get done. Only after you have put a plan into action will you know if it works or not. If it does, great! If it doesn't, come back and start reading and working on a new plan. Don't try and take it in all at once either! It'll just send your brain spinning.

I agree that focus is the key to success. I don't want to be a "nay-sayer" on the forums complaining about how I quit and changed my direction and am still broke. Patience is also a big part of this plan too. I didn't quit my day job, so I can keep focusing and plugg-in (pun intended...lol) along

Well, everyone is different, so we all start with different things. What I enjoy doing wouldn't necessarily be enjoyable for you. In then end, that's what we all need to do... things that we enjoy doing.

This place is a great starting point to get your feet wet, but you are also right on when you mention information overload. Everyone and I do mean EVERYONE has been on information overload at some point.

The biggest key is to pick one thing and get really good at that. It really won't benefit you to get a little bit good at doing everything and not excel at anything.

What interests you?

Do you like writing? Do you like teaching or creating things? Maybe you like managing things. Find something you like and gravitate towards that. There is absolutely NOT just one way to make money online. There are thousand and thousands of ways to do that.

The easiest way is to find someone that is successful doing something you would like to do and learn from them. It could be someone on here, it could be someone on another forum, it could be someone who you follow through newsletters, etc.

I'm not saying just go out and listen to and follow anyone you can find. Develop some trust in someone and go for it. There are many, many marketers out there that deliver quality content, are honest, and love to teach. If you aren't sure about someone you are interested in following... as around. If the person is trustworthy, you will quickly find that out.

So, anyway, you should definitely find the types of things you gravitate to and enjoy and start with one of those. There is really no wrong way to start. JUST START DOING!!

I would say more than 90% of the people come to this board (and many others) with good intentions to do the internet marketing thing... but when they find out you actually have to do something, that is the end of it. They either have no desire to actually do any work or if they are willing to do the work, they are afraid to actually jump in.

For me, I started with affiliate marketing. And, of course, I did it wrong. But I learned. I did make a little money doing that, but I really didn't have the concept of list building down, and that is where huge money can be made.

If you would like to start with affiliate marketing, I would say go ahead and jump in... It is a great way to learn all the processes.

If you do go that route, let me give you one HUGE tip. Send your traffic to a squeeze page and capture their email address before you send them off to the affiliate sales page. That way you can build a list, build trust with them and market to those people forever and you don't just give that lead to the affiliate.

Its definitely not reading the responses to your question!

You already have a lot of information but you seem unsure about yourself. How do you know if something works unless you try it? So you just wasted valuable time reading this when you should be implementing knowledge that you have. Pick a method and go for it. If you fail at least you will learn something from it. Along your journey you will be learning a lot. If you have a bulldog mentality then you will eventually be successful.

I would say like others pick one method and stick with it.
Make sure it's a simple method.
When I started I sold an ebook by getting to know people on a forum via comments simple as that...
Only one road to mecca is a saying i heard many years ago.

Info overload is THE biggest problem when you're new to the scene on Warrior Forum....

Pinpoint a good, proven method that appeals to you on here (look at the 5 star threads on this forum or any threads on the War Room) and just put the blinders on.

Of course, even the experienced IM'ers can be tempted by the "next shiny thing" that is posted on here or sent to their inbox, but staying focused is really key.

Zabrina's suggestions in post #8 are really golden....Try to setup your taking action time to your reading/learning time to a ratio of 2/1 or even 5/1!

Hello.

Well, if you want "friends" in the industry, I recommend you join up a team of writers that can teach you everything you need to know.

Also, start your own blog, look for the local blog writers and try to socialize with them.
Join freelance groups on facebook, follow them on twitter and interact.

Have patience, everything comes in time.

Means to focus 1000% Percent of what you are doing at the moment..

Without distractions...

Next Set a Target....
If you never set a target you will never reach it...

In Internet Marketing the target is Conversation
And keeping track of the target is Tracking....

Start Will Small Goals:
Earn Your First 1.00
Then Your First 10.00
Your First 100.00
And So On....

Start With Small Goals And Work To Big Goals...

Most people don't have no goals, don't have a target and don't know what path to proceed in. Get Set, Aim and Fire..If you don't take action you will never reach your target...

Honestly, I would give you advice that's contrary to most people...

If you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to be a "jack of all trades."

Don't think you need to be an expert at everything, but you do need to understand the basics of how things work (list building, SEO, copywriting, product creation)...

Then when you achieve 80% mastery of each of the main areas of internet business, and have cashflow, start outsourcing...

The #1 skill of a business person/entrepreneur is knowing how to build a system! Rather than working harder in your business, get your business to work harder for you.
