A few tips for your niche sites out there...

As a warrior, I have seen quite a fair amount of niche blogs and websites. A little something that has been popping out to me is the overall design and feel of the site. Don't run and change your layout or theme just yet!

Now, what I mean by this is that even though your site only exists to sell your visitors products and get clicks on ads - DON'T MAKE IT SEEM THAT WAY! You may be saying to yourself, well I know my site is kickass and my conversions are through the roof. Hey, that might be true, but what about those with little to no conversions?

Here are some tips:

- Your website should be as neat as possible. That means no random floating things, even amount of whitespace, and text that is legible.

- Text should be evenly spaced and easy to read. Don't make your visitor squint to read your long and tight boxes of text. Loosen it up a bit. Make it look like you genuinely care about the visitors (you should anyways!!)

- Logo Logo Logo.. Please, have a logo! Boring text headers won't cut it. It will just show that you are not dedicated. You don't even have to dish out a lot of cash. Do it yourself or turn to fiverr.

- Make sure that your content nicely fits your layout or theme. It should fit like a glove, if not outsource and have someone fix it. Personally, I don't trust sites with a poor design, or that look like the spent all of five minutes working on it.

- Don't use weird or wacky colors, stick to a color scheme!

- If you have any worries, have a good friend or fellow IM'er give you suggestions.

These tips will hopefully make your site more appealing, which will instill trust, which will increase conversions

Another thing if I might add. The benefit of using an image banner instead of text is the option to add an 'alt' tag <img src="picture.png" alt="niche keyword" /> which benefits with your SEO.

Right, on site SEO encompasses a lot more than people think. ^.^

    Totally agree with you.
And I might also add this: If you do something, put some passion in it!

Exactly! People here claim to own 100+ more sites, but how can you really have passion for them? They don't! Passion can be the most important attributing factor to success.

Well, too much passion can kill them.
I like to do a lot of things, too.
But they are different and they all have their drops of passion in it.

If you love what you do, then you have every reason to be happy, to feel satisfied and to achieve greatness. :p

  • Passion schmassion. The vast majority of my sites do very well (although I just dropped under 100 again a few days ago), and I could care less about the niche itself (other than whether or not it's a money-maker). I have no use for pregnancy products, or dog training products, but millions of other people online do. I run each of my sites the exact same way, with the exact same formula, and I can do it with virtually any niche. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That being said, I do have passion for what I do, though. I love the whole enchilada. The research, the design, the coding, the graphics, interacting with customers. Find something you love to do, and you'll never work a day in your life.

I do agree with the rest of your post, though.

Great tips, even though I know all of them this will help newbies.

P.S. Really emphasize on the logo part, it helps you rank better and makes visitors see your website as a very professional one. It doesn't leave anything blank.

There are some extremely bad sites, especially with text spacing, I saw this one in the self help niche, focussed on post traumatic stress disorder - there was no form of spacing in the text, looked like 10 pages out of word just crammed on there - no paragraphs or line breaks. - And that wasn't even the worst thing about it lol.

I think a lot of people do put more of a focus on the off-site seo than the on-site, alt attributes are important!

Passion can be great if you are trying to build authority sites and such, but sometimes when it comes to niche sites passion can go a long way as well.
